When Directories Change TOS

I was just checking a few directories where I had submitted before and I've found some of them now advertising Per Year versus a permanent listing which was how they were when first under development. What are your thoughts on this arrangement? As a directory owner, when you change over from permanent (to raise capital) to per year basis, are your original supporters of your directory kept as permanent listings? Seems bad business to charge yearly to the ones that helped you originally build your directory and paid for a permanent listing, correct?

A sale is a sale if its permanent its permanent, if its yearly its yearly, so if the initial deal was permanent that is what it is regardless whether the TOS changes

    Hello...

The script i use only allows me so much...

If i ask for annual "featured review" then the script i use will regardless show and ask you for a regular review
on a yearly basis by default, which is inaccurate as i review regular then make them permanent anyway...

Just like featured reviews not renewed after 1 year turn into permanent regular links which is standard in all my directories..

    thx

I mentioned over at phpld forum how the script doesn't cater for Featured and Regular to be set at different durations, and that setting Yearly in admin for example will cover all paid reviews, which is not ideal if a submit page says different.

Im not sure if they will take it into account for a future upgrade.

Yes i hope that they do fix this as it does make a submitter wonder whats going on here...

Ive revised mine not long ago and will start doing this on all off mine ;)

    # Featured Review listings not renewed after 1 year expiration time will turn into regular permanent reviewed listings.

I've always wondered how do you set the Featured listings duration from the Regular listings in phpLD, as I have seen some directories offering this. So all this while, it has been done manually?

I had to pay someone privately to sort mine as its not currently a feature as standard.

But as i admitted elsewhere on another thread, it was actually my own ignorance regarding the matter, i had completely not taken it into account at the time when setting up my directories.

directories should just offer perm links ;)
I've never picked up a link that wasn't perm, just a waste of money IMO
They're just about worthless now anyways in google eyes.

Thats what i do too, see the confusion is when the submitter reaches payment page.

Its fine if you have chosen all listing options as Yearly or all as Permanent, whats the other one Unlimited i think?

It was explained to me that Featured listings also dont revert to permanent after a year and then expiring, i was told they disappear.

    Good to hear :)

I've just noticed that 90% of all directories are falling in googles eyes. I have a few directories myself, so I don't want this to happen anymore then you do, but from what I've seen in the last 6 months, directory links are just about worthless to google. Users can get much higher quality links by searching on google for similar sites....

Depending on the version of your script, the functionality can be configured through the admin interface.

    I'm using 3.2 for a few and one that I have 2.1.2

This is obviously done by "G" to further enhance and trigger more use of their engine. It makes the end user or webmaster have to dig a little deeper and approach sites for link business.

Perhaps they think this is one way they can try to sniff out who is either paying for links (not) or simply doing a healthy exchange.

Nearly everything can be changed for payment options and it's not so difficult if have some knowledge.

But worst is what should be done with already listings.
Many of you say you have 1 year featured listings, but in fact for 99,9% it is lifetime as the script is not perfect with it.
It won't dissappear, won't be turned into regular after a year.

First of all your after payment function should be checked and updated. Then you can start with adding code for anything.

I already did so many different code for webmasters - all playing with payment options. Corrected functions, also changing featured into regular after payment, expired emails notifications and most powerful auto renew for featured after 1 year. By default all of it is not working.

And there was a post on phpld forums about different expiry date options, so you can read it, however all of it will never work until some other functions corrected.
