Where to get investment for this?

    Hello,
    I have a question :)
I have an idea for a website which is (I am sure) unique, and a potential money maker (hundreds of thousands, if not millions). However it may violate UK/USA laws (I live in the UK).
I have been told by a lawyer it would be safer to run the site from a country that does not recognize UK/USA laws.
(by the way, the site is to do with the music industry).

I'm pretty sure the site would require significant investment, for both the creation of the site, and the advertising of it.

Where could I try and seek investment for something like this?
I should also say I am 18 years told, and I do not currently have a steady income, so the banks are not an option.

    Thanks for reading :)

Not many places will invest in site that is not legal in Usa or Uk. If you find someone to invest they will want control of the site.

You don't want to be on the wrong side of the law... So, you may want to re-think your business idea to possibly make it legal in the UK. As I'm guessing thats the market your targeting?

Technically I dont think it is illegal in the UK/US, but I would have every single record company after me suing.
I dont think the idea could be altered to compensate for that though.

I think people are getting the wrong end of the stick lol.
This is not illegal as far as I know, but borderline.

This idea is revolutionary. I wouldn't attempt to do the site if there were inadequate safe guards in place to protect me or the site itself.

Also I am a regular law abiding citizen. I do not, and have never broken the law.

No the site wouldn't actually sell any music. But it technically wouldn't be distributing for free either. As I say, its a unique idea.

Hi, do you have msn/yahoo and would you be willing to sign an NDA (once I get one lol)?
I think if a cheap enough coder could be found the budget could be as low (under £7k) including advertising. But I am speaking from the perspective that I haven't done any research on how much it would cost.

Well YouTube illegally hosted people's content and look how big they became - its a myth that you MUST saty on the clear side of the law... if its grey area and you become successful then you can be in a good postition to bargain - like YouTube did for their content

remember that p2p sites have been shut down before, and they weren't technically giving out free music either.
    be careful. good luck

I think you should look into patents before you start giving away your idea, even to an investor. You will also get alot of pretend investors who just want to find out what the idea is. So watch out for that.

A good place to look in to business stuff is: http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/

I'm also in the UK and 21 years old and will be starting a business very soon (website in progress at the moment) and will probably be going through the same steps as you will be.

I agree...intellectual rights theft is rampant...but it's really difficult to find an investor without giving the full idea..
