Google Checkout Suprised Me

I have a site selling themes. At first, I was going to use Paypal only, but I thought it might limit some of my International visitors. On a whim, I added Google Checkout as a second payment option.

I have been shocked. Almost 50% of my sales have come from Google Checkout and almost all of those have been from Europe.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

It's a Joomla WoW Theme, so I know it appeals to US and Europeans. I was just suprised to see how well Google Checkout was doing. I hate being a fanboi, but I'm sold.

    Wow.

Nice results. Google is once again applying good marketing and logic to sell their programs/processors. Ebay, however, is not, so it'll have trouble in the future.

Like the books.com ad for free $10 and junk.

Good results though, and I'll probably include Google Checkout on my next site after reading your review.

I had my first "bad" experience with google checkout. They processed a payment from Germany, then decided it didn't pass their fraud detection methods. That in itself doesn't bother me.

What does bother me is they didn't tell me anything about the buyer, like IP, etc. It turns out that they didn't even tell the buyer as he emailed me three days later wondering when he would get the info to download the theme. That's when I found out he was from Germany.

Not a show stopper, but if I had a higher volume, this could be a real pain. I'm glad they are taking steps to minimize risks, but they need to communicate better so the merchant can take care of the customer in case it was legitimate.

Then again, a real merchant account might take it out on you. ;-)

Not quite the same as PayPal. When someone pays you Google holds the money for 2 days then automatically sends it to your bank account. You cannot accumulate money in your account and transfer it to another Google account holder.

I need to cehck out google checkout, paypal seems to be very picky about the things you purchase. Hence, being suspended.

I also have heard a lot about Google Checkout. Feeling like checking it out myself... :) Any thoughts on why Goolge checkout is preffered over PayPal?
