    What's wrong with calling them Americans? How about a 'US Citizen?'

    I've heard us be referred to as 'Americans' and 'U.S Americans'.

    And calling us Americans is correct because we do live in the Americas. However, that covers more than just the U.S. But we are still Americans.

    Just like European is still correct even though it includes more than one group of people.

    So if you're saying it in a broad sense, then just Americans will work. If you're referring specifically to those living in the United States, then I guess U.S Americans would work.

    Hmm, this is a pretty good question. But i also think calling them/us Americans is fine as we do live in America. Another correct way is " U.S Citizens".

    Yes, in the USA they rules.

    I also see that some times the news are referring to Bush as "the american president". That is pretty odd since there are plenty of american presidents.

    What about Yankees and Rednecks. Or is that politically incorrect.

    Since you have African Americans can you say European Americans.

    Cant see why not.

    That brings up another question I have been thinking about. How many hundreds of years should it take before african americans should call themself just americans? In other words, if you are born and brought up in USA, are you still an african? Are the boers in South Africa really europeans? or european africans?

    bold above is a hint but illegal aliens or Mexicans works too.

    American/Americans is the correct term and does not apply to people from Peru because the term is a national level not a continental level. people from Peru are Peruvian/s

    Yes, but geographically people from Peru is both peruvians and americans. Just like you danes are europeans.
    But I am asking for the correct term, not the term we use in the daily speech. We all agree that if I say "an american guy" I mean a guy from the USA. But actually people from other american countries gets offended and feel that its not a way to show respect because they are also americans.

    we are Americans.

    if your from Canada, then your Canadian.

    Mexico are Mexicans
    Brazil are Brazilians
    Chile are Chileans
    Argentina are Argentinians

    and so on and so forth.

    you may refer to citizens of the United States as Americans cause thats who we are.

    No, that is just not correct, its just like that in the daily speech, but its not a correct thing to say. People from other american countries does not agree on that either. America is from Canada in the north to Argentina in the south. Technically that makes all the people in that area americans.

    Yeah, but anyone living in North America, Central America, or South America could be called 'American'. Just like anyone living in Europe could be called European, but doesn't tell which country they're from. (and Chinese, Japanese, etc can be called Asian)

    People usually get their name from their country:
    Japan = Japanese
    China = Chinese
    Canada = Canadian

    So to me it makes sense that United States of America = United States American would be more accurate.
