What do you think as most important and must have web designer skill? is it important to know everything or is it enough to handle everything? i can use PS, DW, Basic HTML, css but i dont consider myself as web designer, SHOULD i ?
yes why shouldn't you. there is no line that defines what is and what is not unless if wanted something done in a specific field where a degree etc is possible to achieve.
To give the other view.... no, a designer can actually "design", the ability to use a program or the knowledge of how to create HTML does not make someone a designer. This isnt to say you arent a designer just that the skill sets you list doesnt automatically make you one.
to meet the suggested requirements of a web tech you need the credits from you local college this way they will be question as to as!
I think everyone could be a webdesigner. Some will be really good, some will be really bad. Everyone has their own styles, knowledge and mind, which will produce different layouts.
What are the credentials of professional? do i need a Masters in visual art or Phd in WEB Design, or just 3 month certificate from local college?
do not take the online course take the 3 month web designer course then advance to one full year be an adult about it you learn more and you will meet many like you in school its the way to go if you think you can learn it all at w3schools.com you will be fooling your self hand down" a lot of people claim they did" but I know for sure if you do not have a direct connection you better be a Einstein at it" its better to learn fro the pros not the cons" I am on my way to my 2nd semester in school. I promise you this the forums help "but they wont teach you hands on tricks and short cuts it will take 5 yrs for you to learn them but don't take my word for it I'm only a beginner"
So result of this thread is i cant consider myself a designer and i need regular course to get certificate and then a bit creativity to satisfy my customer and until i make my portfolio, i cant consider myself a designer..... any one disagree with this?
I know one thing for sure when you are a full fledged designer you will know for sure! for now get certified but a certification doesn't mean your good it means you have it. get savvy and try out different approaches like word press that's a good start see my Sig for word press blogging
Honestly, I've seen people that create a couple of boxes in photoshop and throw some text into it that consider themselves designers. If you know any level of HTML and CSS then you are pretty far ahead of the game in my eyes.
Add some PHP to that list. You should consider yours depending on how proficient your skills are in each of those fields you've mentioned above.
My definition of a a designer is an individual who can competently design visuals. Be it logos, banners or a fully fledged layout. Whether they are a good designer is another thing entirely. A designer should be judged based on his or her work. This is where a good portfolio helps.
Among the most important of skills is the ability to clearly communicate. Proper articulation of ideas between yourself, other developers, the client and the public should be considered one of the most important aspects of any programming/scripting... ... and yet it is a skill that is SORELY lacking. "How I display page long time" is roughly akin to "Me love you horny long time" - NOBODY is actually going to take you seriously. You see it on these forums all the time posts that would make a conversation between Yoda and Zathras seem coherent.
For me being a designer (in general) has two responsibilities, Well, one is to design of course. Everbody can open Photoshop and design, like to pick up a pen and draw, it's general. But when you talk about design, it must be something that attacts the viewers, especially on web design. Some people talks about the content of a site, but most talks about the visual presentation, and that's the first thing that you see, then you see the content after seeing it. (Sounds like a man hitting on a woman hehehe but from a POV, it's true) Next, a designer needs to know how to implement the design they created, or it will be a total waste. Like in architecture, you don't need to know everything, but you've got to know the basics and principles of it. Like in web design, you may not know how to do the scripts needed, or the database needed for that, but you must know what script is to be needed and how it will function, and should know how it will affect the design if by any chances it may. So a designer must not only have a knack for good design, they should also have a knowledge on how it should work and how it will work. (Ok now I'm pausing and breathe.. ) Coffee anyone?
I somewhat agree with deathshadow I see web design as I see my long lived dream "Being a successful entrepreneur" when you combine the two together you become a serious marketer online " meaning your direction is pointed toward the key roll models abroad the Internet EBay Amazon Target the wholesale industry is reason enough to get you rolling mind set becomes promise and work becomes evident. certification is truley a trophy you earn through hard work
