It would be great if everyone who has a blog could share at least one experience of how you promote it! This would really benefit everyone! I know, I know, "write good content and the visitors will come", but this isn't true, it's more of "write good content, visitors will return" So, I, and I'm sure every other DP Blog owner would appreciate your tips for promoting/marketing a new blog! My first is this: Interviews. People are generally flattered when asked to do an interview, and 9 times out of 10, once you have posted the interview on your blog, they will also write a post about the interview and link to you for their readers to read! I look forward to the other tips and hope that collectivly, we can reach 1001 tips! (then submit it to digg and we'll all benefit from signature clicks - just joking! )
It's actually more like, "write good content and visitors will come through word of mouth referrals" (the most valuable kind).
Well marketting your blog is a long and hard process. Its all down to writing good content, getting backlinks & being search engine friendly. By the end of it trust me your blog will become popular.
According to the title, the idea of the post is to get ideas to promote a blog... not to launch a blog. Promotion doesn't only include getting initial visitors. It's not difficult to launch a blog with quality content. The key is to build your expertise and reputation in the niche before you launch one (so people know who you are and care about what you have to say on the topic), and to take advantage of the professional network you have built up (if you're serious about succeeding in blogging or any other kind of business, you'll have one). That's how word of mouth gets going, and it spreads virally quite well if you keep offering what your readers come to expect.
Add-on plugins regularly that helps your blog gets better and better for user friendly to the visitors...
Ask some other blogger to review your blog, so you can get a nice traffic from big blogger... (but may need to pay money if you blog is not really creative..)
There's another king, called PR, which comes in handy when you try to monetize a blog. Really, it depends on what use you foresee for a blog. If you want a popular, authority blog, then you will have to resist the urge to monetize it optimally for a while, and let it become popular enough that it commands really high prices. If you just want an easily monetized blog, you only need the PR and whatever traffic comes your way.
That's better So your tip is to use the contacts you already have. Some good tips so far, let's keep it going!
I like it! My friend does a similar technique in internet cafe's... setting the home page to his site!
To expand on what Barginator said - running a big contest on your blog can quickly bring you short term and long term traffic. My best advice if you start a contest is: 1. Make it easy to enter (example - a short post about it counts as one entry, or maybe even just a comment is one entry, etc...) 2. Invest in a decent prize - I know not everyone can afford to give away a PS3 or and iphone, but as your prize gets more expensive, the more traffic you'll receive, and not only will it bring in traffic, it'll also increase RSS subscribers, and result in tons of linkbacks. Shoot for spending at least $100 for a prize (or the cash equivalent). 3. Definitely think outside the box. 4. Submit your contest to popular contest blogs (which can be found via a quick search on Google). You'll see traffic very quickly. Hope this helps!
#1 - Just to point out the obvious. Post an intriguing topic in a popular forum and put your blog link in your signature.
