Are Christianity and Islam as similar as everyone says?

I've always wondered whether the two religions are as similar as everyone says, as all my Muslim friends have much different beliefs than I do. Can anyone shed light on the situation?

They are very different. Christians believe Jesus is God, Muslims believe God is one and only.

That's about the only difference. The only real difference is the role they believe jesus to have.

Judaism, islam and christianity are all Abrahamic religions which stem from Abraham and his two sons. (Abraham is the guy who people think highly of because he was going to kill his own son for god, Go figure.)

I don't know of any who suggests they are similar, except the few who may be uneducated on them.

There are major differences between them.

Actually, that was one major significant difference, there are too many to mention, so won't bother.

In Christianity, Jesus is to be taken as God and Son of God at the same time. In Islam, Jesus is a Prophet that WILL (as Christians believe also) come back before the end of times. Christians don't believe in Prophet Muhammad as Muslims do. Muslims believe in only ONE God. God doesn't have a son. Basically other things are the same like the ten commandments...etc

They only share some characters. islam came afetr judaism and Cristianity and borrowed heavily.

Islam revolves around Muhammads prophecies. Christianity and New testament around Jesus. Judaism based on the old Testament.

Muhammad was a fairly evil and worldy character in my opinion. Took part in "earthly deeds" sexual, killing, war etc.

Jesus the opposite: taught about spiritual life and rejecting earthly things.

    Very few similarities except monotheism.

Wow, as Muslim, I am shocked how much misinformation you have about Islam. Check the link below for information on Islam from Muslims (the people who practice Islam). I can get information about Jesus(pbuh) being an evil person too, but I don't because he was a very peaceful person!

Exactly. He was peaceful about 99%. Exactly how would youget info on Jesus being evil if you say he wasn't?

I have plenty of info on Muhammad and I said he was pretty evil in my opinion. I've studied the prophet for most of 15 years. I would recommend Sword Of The Prophet by Serge Trifkovic for you if you would like to learn more about Muhammad.

I know Muhammad was a great person in history. I mean great as in important not great as in good. And I admire many things about Islam culture but not so much the religion and definitely not Muhammad.

I also have no problem with Allah as I consider Allah to be God, the creator of all.

I say peace be upon you, (and Muhammad cause he sure needed it).

You made the mistake of posting a book title by an author who is non-Muslim. A non-Muslim cannot summarize what more than 1 billion people believe in buddy. Good luck.

I suggest you browse to the site below.

A non-muslim can do it easier than a muslim can. A believer will be clouded by dogma and his own interpretations. A non believer wont be clouded because he will only be reading the words and what they mean.

No Muslim could summarize the beliefs of a billion. But one things for sure, if anyone is following Muhammad and Muhammad was into evil then they are following evil.

I recently visited a mosque and I have to say It was one of the nicest and calmest places I have ever been, If you can shed the somewhat jaded view that some of western culture has on Islam (you know what i mean) Then it becomes a very appealing religion. As to their differences, belief wise. Followers of both are "people of the book" - quote the Imham From the mosque i visited. And their differences root in the practising of the religion.

the main diff i think is that Islam's ideal is in integration of church and state which i believe is fundemently immoral.

That also explains their hatered towards Christianity, because a lot of them do not distinguish between Corporate America and the dominate Religion of its citizens.

The two religions are very very much the same, its just details that are different. The main messages about caring for each other and live a clean life is all the same.

Yes thats true to an extent so I dig it. I just can't get over the fact that a mass murdering, over-controlling, genocidal pedophile would be giving me moral lessons.

    :p

If only ole Muhammad wasn't such an evil prick...it would make me feel a little better about it.

True, but if we forget about mohammed, jesus and the rest and go to the core of the religions it is the same. Its about love.
