Creating a new Blog. Any opinions/hint?

I'm working on a "cancer" blog. My page is http://www.childrenofcancer.com, I wrote some articles myself. This is the first blog I ever write, so any opinions or hints are much appreciated.
A few questions if someone may enlighten me.
When should I update it? (everyday, several times a day, weekly...)
Where can I get some pre-written articles, or is it a bad idea?
Where should I post my blog?
Should I use stumbleupon and so on?

    THank you

Thank you for all the good information. I will try daily.
One more question, are those automatic content changers a good idea, or stay away?

If you want to get some good advertising, you need to submit it to the cancer societies and other cancer sites. If they like it, they will send you lots of traffic.

I can't comment on content changers because i've never used one. Just read more than one article on the same topic and write your own from what you've read.

Wordpress has a great feature that I have been using a lot lately. When you go to write a post you can edit the timestamp which will change the time it is posted at. So, for instance, if you want to update your blog daily, but don't want to write daily. Sit down and write out about 5 posts, change the timestamps on each post so they are posted once a day for 5 days. Your blog will autoupdate with a new post at the time you specify.

Handy feature that I think a lot of people forget about.

One opinion: change your domain name. Its easy to change it now because you've just begun. ChildrenofCancer.com would mean to me: its a website about children who have cancer. But your blog caters to everyone: children as well as adults.

Try getting a better domain name.

It depends on how you plan to earn money. If you plan to earn money through ads, then post daily. Maybe even 2-3 times a day.

If you plan to earn money by selling products, then you'll have to look at the product purchase cycle. Usually, you should follow the 80-20 rule. Write a blatantly promotional post after 4 good informative posts. So if you post daily, you'll be able to promote your product once a week.

Read this post for a better idea:
4 Blog Frequency Guidelines (How often should you blog?)

I would say: to build an authority blog - you need to have exclusive content. So don't buy those health PLR and article packages. And don't use articles from article directory websites.

If you don't want to spend time writing content, find a writer from freelance sites like getafreelancer.com

You should look for paying $5-10 per blog post of good quality.

If your blog becomes popular, you can ask your blog readers to contribute their tips to you. These - you can get for free.

Wherever people are looking for information on cancer.

Cancer blogs. Networks. Create a group on myspace and facebook. Buy banner ads on other cancer websites and blogs. Buy PPC ads. Buy co-reg leads.

Yes - but don't stumble on all your posts. Just the good ones.
