Eu, don't want to spoil your dreamworld, but Windows can't be compared with Linux security. There probably isn't more secure then Linux, while Windows could crash or get infected by text files. I tryed Linux while ago, but when I tried to install some programs, I was missing a component, and to install that component I was missing another component, and so on ... To lazy to look for the components so removed the thing Might give it a try later
Linux is much more secure than windows. I have re-installed windows so many times because of virus attacks. I never have such problem with the linux machines.
CONGRATULATIONS I have not inducted you into the Linsys hall of fame, what does that mean, really nothing but now you are my new friend!
My concern is, if you switch to Linux, what can replace MS Office Groove? And I haven't tried GIMP either. What about Corel Draw?
Well, I can't say I agree with your decision... but since I don't know you, I accept Had you been one of my good friends, your head would be through the wall for ditching windows. Okay, that's a little extreme, I guess... But I'm a die-hard windows fan!!
Good move. I did the same but on only one of my machines. The only OS I don't like using is Macintosh, but I guess the last time I used that was about 4 years ago, plus Macintosh isn't really popular in the U.K., only mainly in big graphic design firms, etc. I think best version of Linux is Ubuntu, as it is free, supported and is generally an excellent OS. And I have to agree with you all - it is like a weight being lifted off your shoulders when you don't have to worry about virus', trojans, etc. Linux is the future I guess!?
Hi, There is a very good alternative to corel draw, it is call inkscape. I have made a basic inkscape tutorial here.. Product rendering using inkscape It highlight some of the features of inkscape. regards
I just want to know whether you have actually ever used Linux. Heres a list of facts: 1. Windows is the most virus, spyware, trojan etc prone operating system ever created. 2. How many times do you see linux on the news for security issues. 3. Linux because of its open sourced nature can be changed to be more secure & also the fact communities develop it, bugs are found alot faster & rectified alot faster. Soo in conclusion that statement of yours needs to be revised. Personally i don't use linux, i would but my brother can't get to grips with it & his uni project requires software which is only windows compatible. Also i need windows media sharing with my xbox which i don't think will work on linux.
How about the fact a larger percentage of websites are hosted on Nix boxes???? You are very wrong that Windoze is more secure it is secure in being one of the worst piece of crap portraying itself as an OS that I know of.
I currently have Ubuntu and Windows dual booted. I much prefer Linux, but I haven't been able to find any FTP software for Linux that comes close to CuteFTP Pro for Windows - if that ever gets ported to Linux I'll happily drop Windows altogether.
Justdownload FireFTP. It's got everything a standard FTP user would need. Much better than Gftp. If you don't like it, try FileZilla 3!
Hope it works for you. Currently Microsoft is working fine for me. If they do start anything dumb I will consider switching to Mac or maybe Linux.
Linux is secured because of it is not as popular as windows. That why linux has less virus. But you should give it a try.
I am running Windows XP on my new laptop for few years now , and never had any problem with viruses or security (tough I know people who did). I have proper protection software but I do not mess with it at all, it all works on system: set it up and forget it. I was running Mandrake Linux on one of my computers few years ago and to be honest I wasn't to happy with it. But don't get me wrong, I am not bashing any of those systems. I am happy that competition on OS market getting more and more tough become at the end we, end users, will benefit. So If you ask me: Long live Windows, Linux and Mac !!!
I'm in the process of switching. Only 2 Apps keeps me on XP, Adobe PS and DW but soon I will start experiment with Wine. If the results are good I will completely delete XP. I can do the same tasks on Ubuntu Linux and more secure!
