That is my belief also that the sitelinks are authority for the term only.

Not for nothing but what would the Sootle Directory know of what Google's intent is??

That's like reading what Ford "thinks" Chevrolet does internally...

That makes the article a best guestimate and nothing more.

    >so there is actually a big chance that those directories were reported to google for selling links by a big number of people around here. You know, that form google has up for reporting sites that sell link..

I don't have a directory but I do have links going out on a lot of my articles (PR 6 pages). One thing I found interesting lately is that I was getting about 1-2 emails a week requesting that I sell a link or ad from one of my pages around the time Google was warning about selling links. I finally got ticked off and told one person I don't sell links, I don't trade links and I don't get involved in triangular linking schemes either, so buzz off!!

I haven't gotten any emails since.

So now I'm wondering if this wasn't a competitor looking for an excuse to report me to Google for selling links - which I don't do.

I hate that the directories are getting penalized. So many people have been using them as sources for backlinks, myself included. I just started trying to submit to many directories on a daily basis not long ago.

And that, of course, is exactly why Google is cracking down. You're not supposed to be able to buy your way to the top of the listings. You're supposedc to EARN your way there with quality content.

True and Rand Fishkin has talked about the Crap Directories that are emerging mostly from Digital Point in This Issue.

I guess they picked directories to go after. A lot of directories are set up as 3-way link exchanges and the line between a paid link is non-existant in most directories.

Links that are identified as paid links are discounted. That means if you bought the link in a directory hoping to increase your PageRank, you just wasted your money. If you bought the link hoping for traffic, you'd better hope that someone other than you and the directory owner actually looks at your listing.

Crawler based search has replaced directories and most directories don't add that much most directories other than providing a link.

I would like to see some official proofs to this claim in bold.
When Matt Cutts stated that it is fine to submit in quality directories - how can you rubbish all directories:eek:

Its different matter altogether that you might call my directory link-farm -but I promise it will be a quality directory in one year time (mine is still only few months old-need time).

It is just dumb to generalize and rubbish all directories (that charge a review fee) based on personal dislike.
Please find Matt Cutts post on DP on 6th October-2007 Here.

I would humbly like to request you to state facts ---which is -- "most directories do not offer much quality but there are some high quality directories"----

    Regards
    John

I noticed an interesting thing. I added my site to clush directory and my rankings dropped by ~2 pages. Maybe this is an accident but some of my friends had the same issue and then after removing the urls from clush the sites where back.
