I have CRT monitor in my office and at home, but in office most of the employees have LCD Screen. I like the look and style of LCD Screen very much and I want to request for getting a LCD Screen.

But I want to confirm that can LCD screen be used for Graphics related work?

Is there any difference in CRT Monitor & LCD Screen?

I think now a days companies making LCD screens useful for Graphic Designers too (may be I am wrong)

What do you guyz suggest me, should I ask for a LCD Screen or not? will there by any difference in CRT colors and LCD screen colors?

If anything I found my lcd screen to be better than my crt, thought I was not doing any serious graphic designs... But yeah, I find they make everything look more vivid.

The CRT is capable of a higher framerate/refresh rate, which makes it preferred for serious gaming. I'm not sure about graphic design, but I would think the CRT would be capable of more vivid colors. Of course, it all depends on the individual model.

I think LCD is now as good as the CTR.
Ofcourse you will have to buy a high end LCD, not a cheap one.

I use my LCD for graphics work... there shouldn't be a huge difference, doing graphics work you won't need to be concerned about refresh rates and things that sometimes steer gamers away from LCD monitors.

LCD has it's limitations on the colors and dot pitch it can display.

Maybe a trinitron or diamondtron lcd will get you by, but I think most real computer design and art places use flat screen CRT's on Macs and Avids.

But for most hobbyist and low - mid scale design work, I guess it shouldn't make much difference and they could settle for lcd's.

LCD is the better choice for graphic design no argument. The only tool that I know of [that is for graphics design] which is not suitable for LCD's is the light pen.

Thank you for your reply and giving me a relax to get a LCD screen :)

Let see what kind of LCD my company gives me.

I agree with you. I think graphic designers don't have to worry about the refresh rates.

Great, I am definitely going to request for a LCD today :)

    Hope I get it soon.

I use a LG 19" lcd with "true color technology"

I can sit on there and select purple, get on my laptop and the same purple is darker and not correct. $600 monitor, well worth it.

It kinda depends on what the 'destination' medium is...
    Web, print, TV, film.. etc.

If you're designing for the web, then LCD is fine.
I do plenty of print work on my old Philips 190B LCD and haven't had any problems.

Get the LCD, the only difference between CRT and LCD, is that CRT responds a few milliseconds faster (you will only notice of you are a very, very heavy gamer. For everything else CRt and LCD ae the same, except LCDs are more common now and use up a lot less space. Hope I helped you.

Ha! :D Good ol' consumerism at its best.

Newer isn't necessarily better. It's often worse. Ever heard the saying "they don't make them like they used to". :p
