This is not what I hear of know about Jeff.

Hope this will be sorted out sooner than later.

And Jeff may be busy finding out how to come out of Google penalty etc.

    So, give him some time.

You make a really good point. I've been examining the screenshots, and for instance - the first one:
    http://www.avivadirectory.com/detail/link-31693.html
looks like it has been copied from the first paragraph on the site itself, rather than anywhere else (at http://www.americangourdsociety.org/)

    This one here:
    http://www.avivadirectory.com/detail/link-31702.html
looks like it has been copied from the site's meta description, rather than anywhere else (at http://www.birdinaskirt.com/)

    This one here:
    http://www.avivadirectory.com/detail/link-31729.html
looks like it has been copied from the site's about page, rather than anywhere else (http://www.dorodango.com/about.html)

I look at a lot of the other descriptions, and they seem different to me.

    E.g. http://www.avivadirectory.com/detail/link-31716.html
"Provides a craft directory of links to craft sites, craft ideas, projects, supplies, free projects, shopping, resources, project ideas, and more."
    versus
"A directory of craft ideas, projects and websites. Over 1,700 directory listings and 440 project listings. Includes finished crafts, supplies, patterns, and project ideas."

I would also point out that compostannie never responded to the clear point that she scammed me. As threebuckchuck admitted:

The descriptions are not the same....similar but not identical. Hat's off to the editor/submitter for altering the description.

Keep something in mind... a unique description isn't determined by something like search engines. There are legal rules about altering content. You can't take content from one site and simply "rewrite" it legally (depending on where you live and where the content owner lives). That's why rewritten articles are often illegal (unless based on PLR). If Annie and her husband own the originating site that she copied from, and she blatantly gave "permission" or "license" to the content to Jeff by posting exact or overly similar descriptions:

    A) They have very little right to complain
    B) Jeff doesn't have to remove or alter anything Annie posted unless he chooses to for SEO purposes

I certainly don't know every little thing that went on here, and don't claim to. But again, know all sides of an issue before you choose to attack someone, especially publicly. Tarnish a reputation maliciously, and you can actually find yourself in some legal hot water.

@jhmattern - I agree w/everything you said. "legal hotwater" is key in this thread.

I was only pointing out (albeit not clearly) that it's possible that the same person (the owner of applique) submitted to both directories with a different description.

Jeff is the guy who has been marketing his site by trying to persuade us that its an Authority Site, ranks and alongside Yahoo and Dmoz? Same guy? If so wouldnt that also qualify for inclusion on the list?

@FreeWebSpace - Am I missing something????? Seems obvious that the owner of a site might submit duplicate descriptions.

BTW: ^thats a real question. I feel like I'm missing a "key" point.

It's amazing to see how many try to insert themselves into other people's business. What's the motivation?

I think the listings were added because of their "quality", but not sure about it either. So, the owner did not submit listing, but were added by an editor to aviva directory.

That's why I asked this question before,

    Anybody knows?

This issue should be dealt with privately between Annie, Dave and Jeff.

Wait does that mean most listings were not actually submitted by actual site owners, so aviva giving wrong impression to submitters that so many people actually submit and pay the fees ? (to be frank i always thought all sites were actually submitted by individual site owners and they paid the fees, now this chances my perspective of how aviva works never though about that point) . Thanks mywebsearches for waking me up

Ok now i am lost totally, isn't that cheating (aka providing false impression to submitters( ? Shouldnt aviva mention something about that on their site somewhere or did i miss some pages ?

Its called accountability and is perfectly normal in any business. I happen to think its an important part of keeping things straight. All I know about Jeff is that he has gone out of his way to promote his interests by misrepresenting himself and his directories. I also consider him to be primarily responsible for the panic attack that is gripping the industry at present and he is Prime Evil in my eyes.

Although I do see that he has since answered, what interested me in this thread was the accusation that he is ducking and diving another issue where his integrity has been called into question.
