Links from directories - Have some value (It is about quality)
Links from blogs - Have More value
This is my view on this update I am expecting they'll decrease the value of a lot of link from one domain (sitewides).

I will attempt to get that blog working that was mentioned previously. Cannot loose really since the domain name has two keywords in at anyway.
Don't know the slightest things about them however.

With the directories I know they can pass on PR and the best ranking competitors for some of my niches are on yahoo directory

What like when one site has a thousand links each with a different anchor text?

What about when you pay to get a post on hundreds of blogs, all of which are run from the same server, so have the same IP address. Last time I asked this a couple of sellers chirped in that yes it's a great deal, which of course they would. I want to only hear from buyers, i.e a webmasters side. I know a lot of you guys have bought such posts on such networks, was it worth it in terms of noticable SERP improvements?

I feel they both have value, but like anything else, better sites provide better value whether they are a directory or a blog or anything else. In a recent test on getting a site to rank for a specific term (which had light to medium competition) I tried something with some directories. I submitted (actually I had a service submit) to 200 free directories and used a term in the anchor text that is not anywhere present on the entire site (or in the code) and within 60 days I went from not ranking at all to hovering around position 12-17 in Googles SERPS for that term. What did this tell me, well I felt the importance of anchor text and that backlinks from directories do have some value. Just my 2 cents....:)

To answer the million dollar question - no, but I do run a network of about 7 directories and an SEO blog. The directory submission service I used for the test was directory maximizer. I hope that help....:)

I have given it a go with that submission service that you used. I used to do it quite a bit. But stopped when i realized that many links were not even spidered

I think links from blogs are very helpful not only in terms of link value but if also in terms of driving traffic to your site.

Have a lot of sites on a lot of servers, but mainly have links on real sites. Also we offer an affilate package at £100 per sale! Sometime people buy 10 in one go!
Does anyone know of a site that ranks well just due to bloggs then?

Google text link page devaluing paid text links talks about using blogs if you want to generate links, which seems to indicate they at least value the links. Blogs may be useless if all you do is comment spam since they are all on to that now and most have no follow; but if you contact the blogger directly and they post or link to your site from the site I'd say it has as much value as a link from any other website.

Lots of shitty directories around, I think some are worth doing and they are easy to do.

So basically just a normal text link on a high PR page.
DO you think this is rated as much as say an equivalent website?
    Haven't actually tried this myself
Did it work for any of your sites?
