As the title says could anyone get this site ranked number one in google for the keyword art ? If so what would it cost?
Do you mean in Google.com? Art is a subject that carries a lot of authority links and you want to get to the top of the 907,000,000 pages ? I am sure a top 5 would be achievable with a 6 figure war chest.
Would take a lot of work to get listed on first page let alone number 1. Your better off with a keyword combination that has less competitors.
What about on google.co.uk uk only results? it already ranks number 1 for abstract art and a lot of top ten result for other art related searches
Still loads of authority sites there with wiki, councils and the BBC, again a top 10 would take a fair bit of cash and time and top 5 would be a better target. Aiming for No.1 for a short generic term like 'art' would be a waste of money, war chest and go for a top 10/20 and aim for better more specific terms and long tails.
I agree with the general consensus that more targeted phrases are your best bet for page one listings. Scott's long tail recommendation hits it squarely. You have to give credence to the fact that the job of a search engine is to return relevant results and they will ALWAYS work toward doing that and your site simply does not equal the most relevant response to the search term "art" and getting it be that way would be insanely expensive and require a significant change to and additions to the current content on your site.
One of the previous posters hit it on the head - how many times to you actually search by typing in only one word i.e. art or car. Particularly with something like art - it's the long-tail terms (the qualifications people put on a phrase) that are going to be important. Abstract art is a great example of the type of thing to aim for. Dylan
hmmm.....I've just looked at and it's number 6. Which is good, but it's not no.1 And as wikipedia is no.1, it's never going to be.
That was my first thought also when looking at your post. Most people are not going to type in simply: "art" - you are better off trying for "abstract art" or "modern art" etc
it normally fluctuates between position 5 - 8 on google.co.uk worldwide results but if you look at what i said "uk only results" you will find it is number one. I will concentrate my effort on more two word combinations then for keywords to rank well for.
I like your sense of ambition, anyway...would love to link with you on my book-related sites. Shoot me a PM if you like.
