I'm interested in your position over this topic...what's the best forum software.

Forget about the money (that one's free so it's better) and "depends on what's best for you" replyes. What is, in your opinion, the best forum out there?

I used vanilla for a week...the road is long for them...if you install 3-4 plugins you got yourself a very slow forum.

Nothing to compare with VB if cost factor is removed.

Maybe one of you can enlighten me. I've never used VB, but find PHPBB very easy to use, maintain, and modify? Why would I want to go to VBulletin for a very similar product that merely costs me more money? Am I missing something here?

If it costs you than you have support, you can't compare them until you work with both of them, security...lots of things are involved

based on quality Vbulletin is by far better!! phpbb is good, I Quite like Yabb but there are draw backs on that, it is in peal which i know little about and it always redirects to forum.com/Yabb.pl which is ANNOYING

vbulletin is the best for paid, however i would still take phpbb over it even though it was free.

I voted vBulletin ofcourse, I'll have to try the Mybb script. I've used SMF and phpbb2 before, both nice for free.

I voted phpbb because I have a site equipped with it, nice and so on, see signature, but i would say I think this list seems a bit short to me ,

phpbb or pbpbb3 why not fireboard, why not a longer list ?

You also find an excellent forum (paid) is burning board, equipping ogame's forums (6'075'123 posts for french forums) from wotlab GMBH

Concerning this kind of concern, you can find an excellent thread (in french, but easily understandable I think) on http://www.webrankinfo.com/forums/viewtopic_60370.htm
