Only Impressions. Any tip? :)

    I started a new campaign late yesterday night and put my maximum bid to $0.20. Today, in the morning I saw over 5000 impressions and 0 clicks. Is this natural? Any tips on fine tuning my adgroups?

    I suppose it really depends on the keyword and precisely where those impressions took place. I'll take a couple guesses though:
    1. Was this on a broad match phrase -- if so, try refining the phrase a little more clearly and testing the phrase/exact as well.
    2. Were most of the impressions may have been from the content network -- if so, run a kw placement report and look to see if this ad is simply showing up on some crazy volume sites that don't prominently feature the ad.

    I recommend you turn off the content network on your campaign on just the search network. You may want to just work with Google search in the beginning. Once you get your feet under you, add in the search and content networks. When you do add in the content network, create a copy of your current campaign and set it only to utilize the content network. It will give you a great comparison to maximize your ROI.     5000 impressions and no clicks seems strange... I agree with the above comments.

    If you are bidding broad - you may want to run a Search Query performance report (in reports section). You will be surprised what junk broad match can bring back - the term you bid on can be quite different to the search term that a searcher uses and search query report gives some insight into this. I use this feature frequently to build up a negative keyword list for campaigns.

    A low CTR suggests the your ads may not be relevant to searchers' query - and this will have an impact on your quality score.

    You may also want to review the terms you are bidding on.

    I think this was the reason. I just disabled the content network. Thanks for the tip Huligan :)

    Also is your ad catchy? if it's not a catchy ad people might not click on it.
    split-test some diffrent worked ad's is always a good idea..

    Thanks for the tip selltrib. I have just created a dozen of ad groups for my campaign, trying to figure out what actually works. I am getting clicks too but they are not converting at all. Maybe some problem with the keywords I used or maybe my landing page (which I created myself) is simply not good enough to yield conversions. I am still wondering what exactly is a good, converting landing page look like, specailly for CPA offers..

    I had the biggest improvment with one of my ads and i mean big from a ctr of 0.37% to 0.99% all from changing the word 'info' to 'guide' Crazy stuff. But goes to prove test test test :D

    I have to agree with all of the replies here, but two of them more than others. One is definately concerning the content network. I've had the exact same thing happen to me on one of my first campaigns... you guessed it, the content network chewed up impressions like crazy.

    Secondly, as selltrib said, you would be amazed at how the smallest changes can make the biggest difference. For instance, changing a heading like
    "On Sale Designer Suits" to "Designer Suits On Sale" or vice versa... play around with it... and by all means, test and tweak, test and tweak, test and tweak. You'll be in profits before you know it.

    Thanks for the tip, will check this out too. The thing is I fine tuned my ad copies and now I am getting ok clicks. But the conversion is still low. I checked out my affiliate link today with the help of HidemyAss to see the link is working and the site won't display through the proxy :( I am a non US publisher and so can't check the URL directly. Is there any good way to check if he affiliate URL is working fine? (Or can someone in US please check if my link is working?)

    Tip 2: Provide some CTR deterrents like price/number or some intriguing stats to provoke some genuineness and direction to the customer. This way at least you can avoid “casual clickers”, who increase your clicks but doesn’t lead to the conversion. Please let me know if it helped.

    Another great tip. I have implemented the first one, still refreshing to see the changes :) Thanks for the tip. My CTR is increasing and on some keywords I am getting a 68% CTR but no conversion so far from that. Any tip on that?

    I would like you to check your landing page once more...may be a little tweaking on the placements of your links could do that trick....

    Alternatively, You can even log in to your adwords account, go the Website Optimiser under Campaign Management. And then choose Increase Conversions and try out some testing pages to chekc the conversion of your page and let me know.

    I am actually using PPC directly to send traffic to the advertisers landing page now (though I still run some slow campaigns on a few landing pages too), I am also trying to create some goog landing pages myself as well. I will check out the Website Optimiser if it can bring up some clue on better conversion. Thanks once again for the great tips. It's really of great help for newbie like me :)

    Hi, content search is notorious for pumping up your impressions but CTR tends to be low.

    Low CTR could be because your ads are not targeted for your keywords ie your ad copy is not relevant to your keywords. This explains why no one is clicking.

    Another reason is that your ad is not placed at a prominent position on the content websites. This is quite random but it is good to target your bids such that your average ad position hangs between 3 to 5.

    One thing you can do is to avoid using broad terms, and also very general keywords that are too common. For example, if your ad is on an ebook on how to make money online with low budget, avoid using keywords like

    make money, money online...

    rather, go for long tail targeted keywords like "make money online with low budget" in that line. That way, your CTR will improve!
