It's know that many good inbound links will give your site(s) better Google rankings. It's also knows that inbound links from sites with the same C-class IP number will not count as much as links from other C-class IP's. I run my own dedicated server and have some sites in similar niches, all with unique and hand written content and each sub niche is maintained by another webmaster. In the past it was a good strategy to have an own site for each main keyword. Nowadays links from same C-class sites will not (or only slightly) increase Google rankings. You will get much better effects with links form different C-class sites. I'm looking for someone with an own server to share hosting space. You will get an account on my server and vice versa. Than we would not be penalized only for hosting the subtheme sites on the same server.
Plus 10 or 15 cross links like that might not be high quality links and might make all the efforts not worth pursuing.

The real "secret" is to provide users with good content that people will recommend to their own visitors on their blogs or web sites. Provide people with something unique and interesting to link to, and you will get there!
