Linking out to a trusted source

This is why Pagerank isn't real accurate, Google does mess up. I can show you 1,000s of examples of inner pages having a higher PR then the homepage when they should not.

 

Apart from the sites that don't give the homepage a sitewide link, it's probably because someone somewhere else linked to the page

Say the homepage is PR 4 and so is a Contact Us page

Maybe they are both almost PR 5

And I have a question on DP and link to the contact us page, which might push it to PR 5.

PR is not a simple 1-10. Instead, PR is based on 'points', which are assigned based on the other website's PR.
Every page has 0.15 PR points (Source: Google patent)

(The following is guesswork)
1 PR point might be a PR 1 site
10 PR points might be a PR 2 site
100 PR points might be a PR 3 site
1000 PR points might be a PR 4 site
etc.

Therefore, say the homepage has 999 PR points, and so does an inner page. One link might push it to 1000, giving change in the PR bar, while still being 'worth' about the same.

Of course, this isn't the only reason.

I remember one blackhat strategy is to link from several splogs to people who are linking to you, so as to raise their PR (which raises yours because they're linking to you), while simultaniously appearing clean and legit themselves.

And of course, it could just be a GoogleBug.

 

I too try to link to big authority sites. I've heard it's a good idea and it seems to work well.

 

Heck this is true but how can we proove whether this is down to too much seo or down to a made in china algo?

 

MMm I link to sites to get more PR. Crazy, crude but effective.
Borderline between special ops SEO and whitehat seem so close really or just maybe I am ethically challenged here.
My experience is when you mess about wit the title of the page too much, mainly the index you defelct PR since that page has now vanished..

Just linking out with 0 links means google can't find you. Unless you link to blogs with trackback, or similar.
