This is not good for a person as meat contains alot of things such as high levels of protien i would not advise you or anyone to not eat meat at all!
You have proteins in milk and eggs, well, to say the truth, these two contain a lot of unhealthy fat (saturated fatty acids) which may contribute to high blood cholesterol level. You have proteins in beens, soya, nuts, bread...
I was a vegan for almost 2 years... I never was just a vegetarian... I went from my meat-eating ways, cold turkey to veganism... I enjoyed it... I missed chicken and cheese at first.... but there are vegan alternatives that don't taste too bad once you haven't had the "real" thing in so long... I actually lost about 30 pounds from my lifestyle change (I also was going to the gym regularly, so it wasn't ALL diet related, but it helped). I had never been healthier than my vegan days... but then I got married to a man who doesn't like his veggies... unless of course they're cooked to mush and covered in CHEESE..... I learned during the first 2 weeks after our honeymoon that cooking for us was going to be VERY difficult... so I compromised and went back to eating chicken, fish, cheese, and egg whites.... but red meat, dark meat chicken, and egg yolks still gross me out.. But I developed healthy eating habits over those 2 years and have maintained my pre-wedding weight, which is nice. Veganism is a very healthy choice, you just have to do it right to get enough protein, iron, and other essentials that often lack in diets. If you're serious about being a vegan, do your homework, because all those vitamins and things can be found in veggies and beans and whatnot... but you've got to read up on it to make sure you're doing it right.
This is manipulation. There are "traces" of anything elsewhere. Only meat which is not prepared according to basic hygiene guides can contain traces of feces. Beside that, all eventual microorganisms are destroyed by heating on temperature above 100°C. There is increased risk of contamination of processed meat where bacteria move from surface of the meat into the middle part. There is uncomparable high risk that vegetables would be contaminated with feces. Many of them are eaten raw. But again, properly prepared food is safe to eat.
I know what my vegetables ate while they were growing, I know what's in the soil that they grew in. Because I grew them. I have no problem with people 'growing' their own meat, slaughtering it, and eating it - it's just the blind faith that most people have in others to 'do the right thing'. Farmers are in it for the money after all (and that includes vegetable farmers). So you'd eat a turd cooked at 100c? Not unless there's something going on my backyard that I don't know about.
Really? Did you hand pick out the worms from the soil, or is worm poop just not as bad? Stand guard against any flies from landing on them as well...? How about the soil before you planted in it? Did you only use chemical inorganic fertilizer? Any animals ever walk through your back yard? -Michael
Worm poo washes off. And I'm pretty sure fly poo does too. Compare that to trying to remove chicken faeces from a carcass. The soil here is organic, and has been for around 10 years. We use household compost as fertilzer. All I'm saying is know what you're eating, whatever it is. ------
There are reasons for not eating meat. If you're against meat you don't need to eat it, but advising other people to do the same would need some reasonable fact. Anyway, you haven't say "all meat". My point was, you are manipulating, by scaring people with missleading claims. This is what I don't find appropriate.
Would you approve if I said "some, but not all meat contains traces of faeces." Or is that still too much to take? I honestly don't care if people eat meat, as long as they know the processes involved between birth, slaughter, and getting it to their table. Grow your own.
I can pretty much agree with you. It's about microorganisms and the type of animal food, when comes to meat, and about microorganisms and poisons (heavy metals, pesticides) when comes to vegetables. In my city you can buy vegetables, which are "bio" raised on small private gardens, and most of meat in my country comes from private farms and there are thorough hygiene requirements..., so I never put much attention on this...but, I know, it's also about feelings we personaly have about these things.
I agree. That's really what it all comes down to. The world is dumbing down so far that people literally don't know (or care) what's in the food they're eating. If you know you're eating factory food, whether it be GM vegetables grown indoors, or factory bred meat - you get what you deserve. If you don't know, then you probably don't want to know anyway.
Right at this moment I work on a big article about diarrhea. According to one source, 8 million of children dye from diarrhea every year. The main reason is food/water contaminated with stool from infected persons or healthy cattle. There was a fllood in Bangladesh in August...diarrhea often outbreaks at such disasters...one hospital in capital Dhaka was accepting 50 people an hour for diarrhea. In my country 400 persons in one settlement were intoxicated by Salmonella with innapropriate prepared food, which otherwise rarely happens here. OK, it's about vegans... I recommend potatoes, cooked, not in the water, but in the vapour which comes from boiling water. What difference in taste!
I steam all my vegies in the tears of virgins @ Cylon: You pretty much sum up what I've been trying to say. Thanks. You really didn't read any of this thread did you. It's ok to say so.
@ Cyclon: Your cat seems to have some feelings about what you've said . Your feeding is commanded by vegans? @ Kerosene: Aren't you worried about the salt content? Salt causes atherosclerosis. OOPs, probably not traces of it.
I was a vegetarian for like half a year. I lose weight, but i also lose a lot of strength. I feel a lot better, have more energy I don't care if i eat meat or not, but veggie is harder to prepare and i don't have much choice when i eat out. so it is hard for me to be 100% vegetarian
