Hello. This might be the wrong place to ask this qeustion.
I'm currently producing music, with a friend of mine. Some of our music has gone onto other Record Labels. But we want our music to go on to our record label. Do I need to register a Record Label? (For copyright purposes). We are based in the UK.
We need the copyright just incase we need to take any legal action, from for example: Taking samples of our music.

If you can help me with this, then it would be mostly appreciated!
    Thank you,
    Obs.

    Ty is probably right.

Chances are the record label they were originally published with has the rights to the songs. If that's the case you're probably stuck.

It really depends on what the original arraingement was.

No, you dont need a record company, or a company at all for copyright issues. You need to register your music at PRS (The Performing Rights Society) www.mcps-prs-alliance.co.uk. Thats all, when you have registered the music there, your music is copyrighted.
Your example of "Taking samples of our music" is a perfect example of a case where PRS protect you.

The right to sell the music is another thing. That other record companies may have exclusive rights to sell your old music in certain areas or the whole world, that is something that should be specified in the contract you have with the other record companies.

Please ask again if you dont understand my explanations.

The label dont need any copyrights, but you, the composer, need copyrights. I suggest that you just call PRS and asks them, they will explain it best.
