Bush makes surprise visit to Iraqi airbase

What do you think his response will be?

It's a brilliant move by a man I doubt is very brilliant. This will add credibility to his response to the report on the effect of the surge that will be released very soon. Early indications seem to point to a rather scathing report, and now Bush can counter by saying that he was just in Iraq and it's not nearly as bad as the report indicates, even though he has no training in assessing a war zone and will only be there for a few hours at a very secured location.

We need genetic testing. I'm betting it's his body double. Either that, or Cheney couldn't get him to go hunting, so this is the next best compromise in Tricky Dick's scheme for the American throne.

I think its great...not only is he there, but he is in a section of Iraq that was previously a tremendous warzone. He has also brought in Iraq's leader, which goes to show that Shiite's and Sunni's can meet together and get along...a bold move that I think will work, just like the surge is working.

d16, you are being really optimistic if you think Iraqi Shiites and Sunnis can live together in peace anytime soon.

I prefer optimism over the doom and gloom...the people that Iraq's pres. is meeting today are Sunnis( I think the pres is Shiite, but I might have that backwards)...if they can meet and live together, then that is a good thing...I hope it does work, I hope it brings some stability.

    Haha... You're being sarcastic right?

Because if you're not, you know that april, may, and june of this year was the one 3 month span that saw over 100 US killed in each month... And last month there was 81 US killed, meaning it was averaging more then 2 soldiers a day... And let's not forget that the deadliest attack against Iraqis occurred last month (during the "surge")...

I must admit that as far as DP members go you are definitely the most optimistic about the disaster out in Iraq.

You ought to be an Army recruitment officer. :D

Why would it matter? Those who allow their emotions to override common sense don't really care anyway.

I get emotional when I hear about a guy I knew getting killed in that conflict... Does that mean I don't care?

The Iraq war started in 1990-1991

If we had finished it then we wouldn't have the problems we have today

    Food for oil didn't work.

After the 9/11 attacks we had to do something.

What do you want us to do?

I don't know, how about leave our troops in Afghanistan to find and kill OBL; remember him, the guy that masterminded the attack that killed 3,000 Americans? The guy that bush said he doesn't "think about very much anymore"...

Why do people still think that Iraq had to do with 9/11? Is Rush L still telling people this or something?

They are there. I'm sure you are aware of the situation with the military not being able to go into Pakistan, where unca bin is believed to be?

It makes on wonder if hiding behind that in every post is the real issue or not. But I agree, I get emotional as well. That doesn't mean I want honorable men and women handed a "defeat" by liberal democrats.

Pakistan is still an ally, but they will not give permission to hunt for bin laden. I'm not versed on whether Iran was ever considered an ally or not. What I do know is, allies are most often based upon political convenience and allies of today may not necessarily be allies of tomorrow. This is as true today, as it was throughout the history of civilization.
