Since one week ago, I got around 8000-10,000 page impression per day. But the sad thing is, I earned only around $5-$7 a day with adsense (CTR is only around 0.5-1%). I tried to change the ads placement frequently, when I change it, my CTR will go up to 2%. But one week later, it will go down again until I change my ads placement and even colour! For example, four days ago my CTR was 2.1%, then the next day it dropped to 0.9%. I didn't change the ads placement and in the last two days, I only earned 0.6% CTR and 0.55% CTR. I tried to find out why is this happening. Then I realize that 60% of my traffic are people who typed my website address in their browsers. The other 30% from Google, 10% from other websites. I want to know, how to monetize my website if I don't want to continue using adsense?

Today i have changed the ads placement again and guess what? My CTR is increasing again. If yesterday i got $5.5 in 24 hours, today I got $5 in 5 hours. To be honest, I don't want this situation is keep going. I need a stable income.
Whats your % of returning visitors? If you have a high % of returning visitors they might become ad blink. Like on DP, how often do you click the adsense? Never. You learn to ignore it/skim straight past it. Why not use some php and randomly change the colours of your ad blocks on the fly or even randomly change the ad placement. I wouldnt go overboard though, it could get rather annoying with high contrasting colours changing every page. Worth a thought though. This is just a real quick example, but would work. $rand = rand(0,3); //Random number between 0 & 3 $arrcolours = array('2871C3','2BA94F','F2984C','B3B3B3'); PHP: Then in your google adsense code, you'd do something like this echo 'google_color_bg = "' . $arrcolours[$rand]. '";'; PHP: There's obviously better/more manageable ways of doing this but it gives you an idea.
my returning visitors is around 60%. Yes, it is high because I keep updating my content just like many people suggested all of us. Thanks for your advise, but is there any other method to monetize my website? (i.e.: affiliate marketing maybe?) about DP, so they earned very small recently? Because they never change their ads placement.
are you sure? why did you think i can earn more from adbrite? They are PPC too. about selling links, I won't sell links, I just need to know how to earn a stable income in long term. Selling links won't get long before Google penalize my site. Today stats: Page Impression: 11,625 (until 4.00 PM, Pacific Time), earning: $9.45, CTR: 0.69%. (although my CTR is only around 0.5-0.8%) Anyway, like I told all of you above, I think the problem is my visitors. 60% of them are people who typed my website address directly, 30% from google and the other 10% from the other sites. Do you think my CTR is very fluctuative because of this statistic?

is your site a sort of forum or some other type of site.. also are your visitors repeat? do you also track them?
I was in a similar situation to you. I lowered my repeat visitors (by targeting a different group). My CTR doubled, and my earnings doubled. The problem, though, is that my CJ affiliate sales went down. Now, I'm left wondering my regular visitors were the ones that were buying the merchandise.
no, not a forum. about visitor, 60% of them are direct visitors. I don't know if they are returned visitors because I often uploaded videos to dailymotion, youtube, etc. Maybe I got many traffic from there. yesterday: page impression: 13,135 CTR: 0.65% earning: $10.30. Finally I got $10 in one day, but my CTR is so low....
i have changed the ads placement in my homepage, just like someone's suggestion in here (since 3 hours ago). But my CTR today (until: 03.20 AM, Pacific Time) is still 0.67%. Darn....Do I need to lower my website quality so there is no returned visitors or what?
