No, it's not legal to own a fully automatic weapon...

Yeah, this would be my first gun, so I would like to get one with an external safety. Can you guys suggest some models?

wtf, how did that happen? Your gun can't go off by itself unless you pull the trigger.....right? I mean, if you keep your hand away from the trigger, there shouldn't be any accidental discharges.

Why do you actually want a sidearm, and what exactly are you going to shoot?

Honestly, no. I prefer to not have external safeties for a number of reasons...

Though, I'm sure you'll hear plenty of people rave about 1911's, and I think they have a manual safety...

Some (most?) newer firearms have an internal safety that only allows the weapon to fire if the trigger is pulled...

Still, when doing drills (draw, fire, holster... draw, fire, holster...) with a weapon lacking an external safety there's always the chance that the trigger will get pulled; possibly user fatigue, or it gets snagged on something...

I would like a personal handgun for my safety. I hope I don't have to shoot anything, unless its a target at the firing range. A gun would be a great thing to have in the following scenarios:

    1. I'm confronted with five guys who want to beat the snot out of me.
    2. I'm confronted with a large dog such as Doberman.
    3. I'm confronted with a 350 pound man in a dark alley(when I only weigh about 130 pounds)
    4. The economy has an economic colllapse, and no police officers are available.
    5. The government turns into a dictatorship.

Do it the South African Way.
I am sure that the guys here can recommend the best pistol
    Glock
    Beretta 92
    Sig
    and have a
small 38 snub loaded with those glaser safet slugs I just mentioned assuming they are still legal resting on an empty chamber. Half the weight.
Yeah I know it's not trendy, but unless you are built like Arnie or don't mind a lump on the side of your body, no one will ever know this way. You also do not need to unload twice a weak to ease the spring

For up-close urban combat you can't go wrong with the Glock. Either the G-17 or G-19 are decent, depending on your hand strength. 9mm is a great size. It has enough stopping power to clear the room and it makes sure your opponent doesn't get back up to keep on fighting.

    You could get a 45, but I think that's a bit of "overkill" ;)

    Nope, sure haven't...

Brings up a good point... Tesla, if you plan on leaving your weapon lying in a closet or drawer for an extended period of time, you might want to consider a revolver... Or make sure you buy extra magazines to rotate out, and empty the rounds at a range every once in a while...

With a magazine-fed weapon, if the springs are left compressed for too long, it can lead to jams...

Is it actually legal to be carrying a gun in your state?
If not why not just go for something like a mossy or spas?
Just the noise of it chambering makes me crap myself

    Tell you a story.
About 10 - 15 years ago when all the Nelson Mandella stuff was going on, the first middle class white slaughters started to happen widely reported in the media.
When you get problems like that in the states there is generally a lot more firearms sold.~
In South Africa the amount of ammunition sold tripled, but no noticable rise in firearm sales. They all were armed anyway.

I live in south carolina. If you live in the city the maximum gun limit is, I think,9. Everywhere else, you can have up to 13 guns. Up to 7 of them can be handguns.

Most of my guns are for hunting and for looks. The only ones I shoot regularly are my beretta and "m4" and thats just to stay proficient in case of deployment.

You can't really own guns in the UK. OK shotguns, but handguns are banned due to that Michael Ryan character years ago.
An 11 year old was shot in Manchester this week which is pretty rare in the UK.
    Plenty of illegals around though.
More illegal guns in UK that legal if you look at handguns, for instance.
Used to have loads of the darn things.
Would not be in the same room as one anymore

Actually you can legally own a full auto weapon in certain states.

You will also have to have a federal permit.

The weapons were legally on the market prior to the 1968 Gun control act. I think some more slipped through afterwards due to some loopholes.

My favorite gun is an HK45
My roommate owns it, it's the best gun I have ever shot. Not in terms of price, but in terms of how it handles. It's amazing. I like that even more than the AK, and the AK is a blast to shoot.

The AK scares me. I worry about running out of ammo. I never fired one new "out of the box" so maybe that's a different story. But the ones you get get South of the Border are really only good on auto. You have maybe 4 of 5 mags and that will go too fast. M16 on semi is the best.
