How good is an $800/month tech? You you seriously trust your servers to someone who is paid $800/month? When I worked at Oracle, my entire job was to train my Indian counter parts on Solaris, Oracle, Veritas Products etc.. It was very painful.
It wasn't only me who thought so, obviously you have never tried to teach Indian's Unix, Oracle, Linux etc.. It was pretty much the entire Oracle senior staff including myself. You can pretty much ask anyone in any large org they will tell you exactly the same thing. You can say its raciest all day long but the situation is that India as a country hasn't been in this industry as long as the U.S. We even had training sessions from Oracle Management explaining this situation to us. Most of your highly technical Indians have moved to the US, Europe or Australia because they can earn 10x more working abroad then in their own country. So you have to think If I live ANYWHERE (including India) and have 10+ years of experience with System Administration why would I work for a company that is going to pay me $12k per year (thats what Oracle paid our counter parts) when I can go to the U.S and make $90k? The reality is most non-technical Americans have been using computers for the last 10,15,20 years, whereas as a society India hasn't been forced into the computer age as quickly as America, this is just a fact not raciest. Raciest would be saying Indias are stupid or something, its a cultural thing, its well known that India was late getting into the Technical Age, which is why American companies can pay their citizens less then nothing, the problem is when India as a country catches up, salaries will raise and we will move to other countries who are behind us and again pay their citizens less then nothing to do our IT work for us, the process will repeat its self and it will be extremely difficult to train them untill their soceity as a whole catches up with the current information age.
I think it boils down to two things, no long explanations needed. 1. The people you was training was not qualified for learning. or 2. You cannot teach.
3. You are clueless about India. I have taken people fresh out of college and in one year turned them into senior unix admins at companies like Locked Martin and AT&T.
I dont understand why you cannot spell . and how people can turn into a senior unix admin after training for 1 year . I am sure you dont know much about India to comment , the expenses in India make 12k$ a very good salary , even a 90k$ salary in a place like california make it an average salary . I have lived at both the places so i do know how it is . Make sure you do some research before making such comments .
And yet there are more IT professionals in India ? that Indian software exports are the highest in the world ? You have no idea of what is going on in the world ? you are just another american who thinks america is the only country in the world ?
I think Miko, the gentleman above, is asking for a server administrator, not discussing Indians, or Americans, or Europeans, or Martians.. peace V
