I know a guy who captured a snake and kept it as a pet. It escaped and people were scared out of their wits because of it.

Some people just don't think about ramifications.

    Col :)

    1. Thanks for the information
    2. Convincing my mum will be the hardest thing out of the 6 steps - believe me.
    3. I have a big fish tank unused, will this be suitable?
    4. No problem there.
    5. No problem, i have time.
    6. Can you get pet insurance for snakes? I hope so, because if not, i would be screwed if he/she became ill.

Thanks for all the information. Rep added.

Do you know how many gallons the fish tank is? Also snakes are clever escape artists just to let you know.

And you won't have any disease related problems if you keep the cage clean and proper otherwise you can just go to a vet.

Very informative ratman. I myself am a snake lover but so far no snakes. I only saw them on National Geographic and sometimes in my village but didn't get a chance to go very close to them but I'm not afraid of snakes infact I love them. Though done some research but still I'm lacking. I guess you could be a good information source for me. I would love to have a snake (off course a medium size python will do).
A question: How often do you think they need to be feed? Like daily?? [I'm a bit lazy right now to google this so you will have to answer this]

Thanks God my parents don't have anything to do with this :p

Usually once or twice a week for boas and pythons, species may vary though depending on size/age as well.

hmm that's nice :) but one problem, I don't want to get swallowed by a python :p

I guess I should go for rather small snake (non-poisonous at start) than a mighty 10 feet long python :) to check how snakes really are lol

Now I'm thinking where to get a snake from? Off course I'm not willing to spend $500 on a snake

Babies only cost about 25-35$ captive you can buy them online. Obviously the cage, food, lighting, heating, supplies is going to cost you about 300$ or so. Do you live in the USA as of now, because that's where I know where to get snakes since I live there.

No I don't live in US so buying online is not an option for me (as far as I think) but if you could get me a baby snake ;) you are welcome but shipping would be another problem and most probably they would put you in jail for smuggling JK

Exactly, and I did some research some online dealers ship internationally but require a minimum order of like at least 500$-1000$ and like an extra 150$ shipping and then you have to file a license/permit to USFWS (US Fish and Wildlife Service). lol

    Snakes seem like high maintenance.

Get a rat like that kid in the Ben and Willard movie.

Rattlers aren't really too much of a problem.

The cotton mouths are bad news.
