i think it's just that there have been rumors that he's gay, for years.. combine that with an overzealous press and you've got a big story.. plus, soliciting gay sex in a bathroom is kinda gross..
but, i still dont get why they make SUCH a big deal out of it.. like i said in my first post - i would not vote for him again, but i wouldnt throw him out of office just for being a bit of a freak..

He says he admitted to the lessor charge to avoid any public drama in a court battle. Bad choice if he is innocent.

This is not some ignorant, dumb, uneducated- however you want to describe him and his mentality person, this is a prominent political person. Gotta have some smarts for that. So he knows what the deal is. If he was innocent he would have raised hell. He certainly could have afforded a good attorney.

He made a calculated move to lesson the political fallout. Unfortunately for him, the story got picked up. The released tapes tell the story. He knew was caught and tried to take a quiet way out.

He should have just changed his name to Ted Kennedy or Barney Frank and stuck around Washington for another 25 years. Is it just Massachusetts politicians that can get away with manslaughter, with having relationship with a male prostitute, and other offenses?

..and Republicans can go down for teaching a college course in a non-liberal fashion.

Back to the original example, I wonder how much of our tax dollars are spent on setting up opportunities for crimes. There's enough crime out there, we don't have to prompt it. Why not set up a way to monitor the restroom and catch two in the act instead of luring one in? And is that airport such a trouble spot?

I think it would be tough to catch them in the act. Video cameras in the stalls would be an invasion of privacy.

He put his carry-on luggage in front of the door, which is supposedly a good way to block people from seeing the feet. I also read on another thread that back in the 70's men used to put their feet inside paper shopping bags so people wouldn't suspect anything.

I wouldn't suggest inside the stall. It could be aimed at the door so they could catch two entering the same stall together. Of course there are bigger crimes to deal with.

Now that I think of it, he should have gone Hollywood and gone to rehab instead of resigning.

He did something that is not a crime at all. But the double standards in our "christian" society forces him to retire because of it. I would like to know if all the suckers that want him to retire never did anything "wrong".

And if he came out of rehab and had a press conference with Jesse and Al by his side he could say he was in the closet and is now coming out as a Democrat and all his problems would be gone. :D

This is the heart of the matter. It's another "family values" Republican displaying his... family values. When are the people that vote for these con artists going to wake up and realize they are being swindled?

Yes, he is not better than the system that makes him retire.
