My Link Is Not #1 When Searched On Google. Why?

Hi,

My name is Tony Cai and I have a blog. When I search my own name. I always get this professor with my same name on top of me. I'm always second. However there was one time that mine was actually on top for a day or so. Then it went back down to second again.

My name is Tony Cai, college student with a blog at tonycai.com.
His name is Tony Cai college professor at UPenn.
In fact his name isn't really Tony Cai, its a english identity for him.

I have domain name and a blog that I update regularly and I'm sure that I have more linkage on the web than he does on his UPenn faculty profile. Why does his always come up first than mine?

I want my number 1 spot. How do I get it! It's not fair lol.

Thanks in advance,
Tony Cai

Yeah it is. But does a .edu domain matter that much that it has more authority of ANY .com domain?

I'm searching "tony cai" on Google.

it would all depend on the backlinks it has, domain age, content etc. Generally .edu links get weighted more than a .com but if you get some good backlinks you do have a chance to beat his SERP position.

He beats you because of the total number of links pointing into the domain he is on most likely. Get enough links, and you'll get back on top.

You first need to know the competitors power using nichewatch tool then sort out top competitors and use backlinkwatch to find what quality of backlinks exactly they have and then start doing the original work that is to build quality backlinks accordingly. ;)

Darn GOOGLE PR!! His page has 64, mine has 200+. But UPenn's edu domain has a lot of backlinks.

He is on a site with more authority than you. Thus, until your site gains more authority through backlinks you are going to have a tough time beating him. If my name were Bill Gates it would be tough to beat out an MSN site with a profile of THE Bill Gates.

why dont you seo the site for the keyword "Tony Cai"
I only see a few instances of Tony Cai on the blog and that the username and in the footer which wont have much weight in SERPS, try using h1 with the keyword and repeating the keyword twice thereafter in a paragraph, it should help :)

What difference does it make to have your name at the top?

Is your name "Adsense worthy"? Is it "affiliate worthy"?

Exactly, and try to get quality links, such as exchange links with higher pr's, and use your site's name as your link anchor if that's what you're trying to rank for.

It's not about the money, it's about being number one!

On the off chance someone goes looking for "Tony Cai" I'm pretty sure that "Tony Cai" would like his name on the top of the SERP. It's the same with any keyword really...and should that keyword generate some income so much the better...but if you come in with the mindset of money first, then it's called MFA and no one likes it or you.

Try to place your name within a

and at the very bottom of the page, wait for few days...if even that won't work than get some more backlinks with your name as anchor text.

It'll be very easy to overtake the other site for your name.

What I would recommend is write a blog post about wanting to be number 1 for your name. Give it a title with 'Tony Cai' in it. This will affectively put your name in h1 tags.

Then gain a few links with 'Tony Cai' as the anchor text. A great way of gaining a few links is to set your forum signature as a link to your site.
