I was just wondering if it's a good idea to look at the extension of a directory when making a decision to submit in it. Is it true that .com, .org or .net are the best choices because these are most universally accepted and used. I guess the other exception would be the country specific domains, only in the event for regional listings.
Not really... There are many good directories though the domain extension is neither .com nor .net. such as http://www.gii.in http://domaining.in http://www.web-directories.ws/
Its not a factor at all as apahcinc.ORG has proven. I even have a .biz extension for one of my directories.
This topic has been talked about quite a bit at DP. It makes no difference what your extension is. Concentrate on content and backlinks and you will do fine.
But remember... most people assume .com because its been around so long. Personally, I would go with .com if at all possible. I'm actually sorry I have a .ca but I promoted it so much it would make no sense to let it go now...
go for a .com! i know if it is promoted hard, extentions won't matter much, but still i would suggest to go for a .com cheers!
nothing will beat a .Com from a branding point of view. personally when am very serious about a project, i always go for a dot COM.
Persoanlly i would always prefer a .com, however when submitting to new directories i am a little skeptical to the .info's So if i have to choose to build and site, i would go head on for a .com, maybe a .net but never a .info or any other TLD For established directories that would not matter.
go for the .com and also register the .net, .org and .info (at least) to protect your name (you can 301 redirect them to ur .com)
So true. But it seems like there are not many decent domains left in .com that can be used for directories. Dot com will always be my 1tt preference and after that I think .net & .org can work.
.com is great because most people will go to website.com, meaning you might have a problem with type-in visitors and give website.com more.
