registering deleted domains

I'm thinking about registering a deleted domain sometime soon.
Only problem is that every single deleted domain seems to be taken on the exact date that its dropped.. some domains are completely useless and have no pr etc but they still get taken too. I haven't come across one domain that was actually open to register after being dropped. How do you register deleted domains without backordering?

Stay up to 11:59pm and get ready to hit "Register" in one minute.

Do all domains get dropped at the same time then? Is it GMT?

If the domain is listed as 'expired' but is not able to be registered, a few things have happened. It may be freshly expired and the registrant still has time to renew. It may be held by the registrar for themselves, even though it has been 'expired' for years. It may also go to a drop catcher like SnapNames to be sold at auction.

For example, I saw Cybercafé.com drop and I had to buy it at auction from SnapNames. Luckily, I had no other bidders to compete against, because my friends all knew I wanted it and no one else seemed to have noticed it on the auction. The Korean domains that translate to 'cellphone' and 'mobilephone' dot com dropped but were sold at auction for tens of thousands of dollars.

Check Snap auctions for the name. If it doesn't show up, you might want to backorder it. Depends on how badly you want it. Why risk it?

I don't want names that bad.. It would just be fun to catch a domain with a nice pr sometime. :)
I never go for the expired domains.. I check the deleted lists immediately but I seem to be too late whenever I want to register a domain.
I also don't really understand why the bad domains get taken too..

    LOL! Some registrations baffle me.

Of course, people still laugh at me and my squiggly foreign looking domains. Or they used to, at least.

it takes about 5 days from deletion date for the domain to be actually deleted from the registry. It would be wise to backorder the domain at this time
