I have nether used a blog for anything and I could nether understand the purpose for it. Blogs are basically a form of communication. The writer writes updated, original content, the reader then reads that content and has a chance to communicate back to the writer in more ways than one. Are these blogs making you guys money? Blogs can make people a lot of money. Some of the biggest websites on the net are blogs, and they bring in some big bucks. How much control do you have over the placement of your Google Ads? In Blogger? Almost none. In Wordpress? As much or as little as you want. If you're starting a blog, definitely get your own domain and [free?] hosting and install Wordpress. What is the best to have, a Blog or a normal web site? That's up to you. Some people find blogs are better than other websites, while others look differently. What is the difference between a blog and a forum? A forum is a big, wide, community that builds the content for you. In a blog, you write all the content. Looking at it from a purely money-making standpoint, you'd be able to make much more with a blog (but that's not to say that people don't make money from forums).
Word of warning. Whilst blogs make good money, adsense on blogs is TERRIBLE. You really need traffic to make it worthwhile, as the cpc for "blogs" is quite low. Problogger, John Chow, Shoemoney make their money in direct advertising, text link sales, and affiliate schemes.
Thanks for all the replies, I will surely check out those links. What is in your opinion the best blog software to use? Is wordpress blog software?
For some people blogs will be more effective than normal websites as far as monetization goes. Why? 1. Blogs are easier to setup are require less technical expertise 2. Blogs are naturally search engine friendly (wordpress at least) 3. Blogs help you build relationships and develop a network of friends The CPC on blogs has nothing to do with the fact that they are blogs. It depends on keywords and niche, just like with any website.
My epc on my blogs is the same as on my websites, so I'm not sure why blogs would be considered bad earners on adsense. it really depends on the content you write about. Some of my topics earn 10 cents per click, others in the financial niche earn me dollars per click. My blog CTR is quite high as well compared to websites.
Blogs tend to attract more repeat visitors than other websites. In long run those repeat visitors might be 'ad-blind' and thus possibly a lower CTR after some time. Besides, most blog writers do hope to provide the best readers' experience (for attracting repeat visits etc) and might not want to over optimized their ad units... thus lower CTR as well. Other than that... it very much depends on topic and traffic, just like most other websites.
My latest blog with 35 posts has earned $6.15 this month from adsense, plus some affiliate income. This blog is associated with a niche website which has earned $47 from adsense this month. Traffic flows from my blog to the website and vice versa. My point is, a blog can be used as a source of revenue on its own or as part of a larger package. Again as others have stated the content and subject of the blog is what creates interest and traffic. Note that this blog is on blogger.
It's all a matter of seeing what works. Adicons on my blog are very popular as they generate a lot of clickthroughs and are dirt cheap. I make a little bit from adsense but my main earners are text link ads.
I have wondered about this, too. I have had three attempts at creating blogs. None of them made more than a couple of dollars of AdSense, nor did they encourage visitors to go on and visit my site. First of all, it was a chore and a struggle to find anything to say. When I did write something, the logs showed no-one was interested to read it. Perhaps I did wrong hosting the blog myself using Pivot, instead of using a blog site? Perhaps blogs can be successful if you are a big name in your field, like Matt Cutts at Google, and loads of people are interested in what you have to say. But for the ordinary Joe - I remain unconvinced. If anyone has any suggestions of how a blog could benefit the sites in my sig, I'd love to hear them.
AdSense on blogs is not terrible at all, BUT is is terrible on the overly cluttered 'blogs about blogging niche' because the readers are aware of what AdSense is and so don't click as much.
Blogs are indeed creating income for people around the world, that is, for the medical industry. Blogging has made it easy for the average person to start a site, but the stress of turning it into a revenue stream has caused a massive increase in stress related illnesses. The end result is an increase in office visits and income for doctors. In fact, there is a direct correlation between the Google Dance and new Xanax prescriptions! Seriously, yes, people can make money from blogging, even now with so many doing it. Besides a great topic, the theme is most important, especially for those starting out. Take your time choosing the right theme or you could end up hurting yourself down the road!
Soo in a sense a blog can be a big earner if its content is innovative & interesting & attracts people to read it but in the long term repeat visitors will probably become ad blind. It sounds kinda 2-fold to me, with both advantages and disadvantages to having a blog.
Yes the same as any website can be a big earner, its all dependant on your skills to write a great blog or to write a rubbish one, if your not too good at blogs a forum mite be better as forums you dont write the content
i started adsense with blogger a year ago, till now i've received 3 times cheque. i don't have any site. i don't know how to build it.i don't understand html or any programming language...
