Hi, I just thought I would share my roll-out plan, schedule, and budget. Since I am a new directory owner, I can surely gain from your comments and feedback. Here is my plan of all the TO DOs before making the directory public (I have not disclosed the URL to anyone yet). 1) Content Plan (budget: $1200 | time: 3 months) I have not yet finalized the number of categories, but there will be a few hundred to start out. My plan: (i) On each page of the directory, have an original, relevant article of 150-600 words. (ii) Customize the title and meta tags of each page of the directory 2) Back Link Strategy: (budget: $7500 | time: 2 months) (i) Each subcat or lower page should have at least 5 direct permanent links with relevant anchor text. (ii) Each category page should have at least 100 direct permanent links with relevant anchor text 3) Content Strategy (budget: $500 | time: 1 month) (i) Each inner page should have at least one link chosen by me to a relevant authority site. 4) Visual Treatment (budget: $500 | time: 10 days) Have a good looking custom template designed. I imagine that all time-horizons would move parallely. So, the directory should be open for business in about 3 months. How does all this sound? Am I missing something? Am I targetting too much / too little? All comments are gratefully received. Thanks Ajeet
with so many complains from webmasters that have their directory pages removed from google serps, and the news about paid links banning.. I don't know... I would think twice if it's worth investing so much in something that might fall soon. This considering you will make a paid directory. Free directories might still be safe to keep.
Hmm, I get what you are saying. In fact, the reason I thought of investing so much was to prevent any trace of "low quality directory" on my directory. But, are you saying that the day of the directory is over?
don't know if they're over or not. I'm just saying what I've seen discussing around here. This forum and the google forum of DP.
Google is certainly playing some games with various directories at the moment, it will take more time to ascertain whether its a permanent shift or not. Regarding your plan, its generally solid, be sure to spread your promotional spend wisely, both in terms of time and target. Good luck if you decide to go ahead, sounds like it will be a top notch directory.
This will be a tough one, it involves getting thousands upon thousands of inner page links. (30 top categories x 100 each = 3,000) + (200 sub-categories x 5 each = 1,000), plus you will still need links to your main URL. If you mean placing one link in each cagtegory to help them get indexed (and not be empty) I am not sure why this part would cost you money (unless you are paying someone to do it)? good luck
I try not to rely on google for my traffic. Dont get me wrong, the more the better. However will this traffic he gets from google convert into sales? Webmaster traffic is vital too.
i guess content + backlink = traffic! though i think, there should be an extra budget for submission in web directories and bidding directories! this will provide the traffic
Do you really think you can get these many permanent links for your budget? You have stated you will have hundreds of categories. I guess then you will have thousands of sub-categories. Each sub-category will be have five permanent back-links. You will be needing thousands of back-links. At least getting paid placements will be difficult. It is another thing if you use other resources like articles, social bookmarking etc.
Web master traffic will make ur Dir more successful... & with this budget U can really make a BIGGGG Directory & with unique relevant contents on pages will drive more traffic & more submissions & more awareness about ur site... So when u going to start ???? m really waiting.... & in starting keep the submission rates little lesser... so that it will be easy for me to submit all my sites
I waited all this time so that when I enter then money should not hold me back. I am ready now. Thanks for the encouragement. Not that I will achieve it to extent I want, but I will be attempting to have every individual page have some ranking for relevant phrases in search engines (initially Yahoo, eventually Google). Note that I am a professional SEO for a long time, though a directory noob. So, I think that I will achieve some SEO success. But, I agree with what you are saying. I do not want a directory that just has PR. I want traffic. Thanks. I am hoping that would be a big part of the traffic. Thanks. I think that getting backlinks is the part that I am the least worried about. Contemporary SEO has become all about links So that is what I am good at. Absolutely! What I have listed is the pre-launch plan. When I am ready to charge for listing, I will definitely also show my customer that I am listed in the top web directories. But, that will be the launch program. There are so many things I need to have working before I can show my directory to others. Frankly, I did not think about that. When I move closer to the launch, I will look at the directory options available. Actually when I said hundreds of categories, I meant to include subcats too. So, that scales down the plan to 10% of what I accidentally miscommunicated to you. Charging for submissions is so much in the future, that I am not applying much thought in that direction. But, if I am able to go through with my plan, any amount I charge will seem like a low amount to ME Thanks for all the feedback and best wishes. Frankly, I am so charged up that I cannot sleep. Now, I have to sustain that for 3 months.
Ajeet congratulations you are have just written a excellent recipe for a Successful Quality Directory. I hope you prepare it the same way. Looking forward to it.
You really need to focus on getting on directory lists for traffic. Focusing on search engines for directory traffic is 'pie in the sky' and really not the best laid plan. ie silencers list, bob mutch's list, canadianEh's list, etc....
