What a funny thread-only an american could ask such a ridiculous question!.
As nice a bunch of people as (most) of them are, the Americans cannot "get" football.Only in the U.S. could David Beckham get booed off the pitch-for being injured!.As for England winning the world cup-well as long as McClaren is in charge, we won't win a thing.

We do understand association football it just has some serious disadvantages when options are available.

I don't know about Beckham being booed off the field but there are higher expectations for ruggedness in American sports. Search for videos of Isiah Thomas or Willis Reed and you will find Greatest Playoff moments and you will see what is expected.

The game is developing here. I see it in the club level that feeds into the national programs. I believe you see it over there with an increasing number of Americans playing in the EPL while the number of Englishmen decline. I believe there are three American goalkeepers starting in the EPL now, correct? One advantage in the American system is that the parents are intense in an unhealthy way as one poster in this thread mentioned.

Between the two nations neither is on the brink of victory but within the next 20 years one of them could win and I believe the US may have the better chance. We know how the women have done.

That is true about Australia, pound for pound it is the greatest sporting nation. India? Maybe if this thread were about cricket but it's not.

England won't win the World Cup while McClaren is in charge. They probably won't win it in the next ten years as some of the players we have just take the money they make playing for England and couldn't care less what they do on the pitch.
We have a few players who give their all in every match for England and then the likes of Frank Lampard and Michael Carrick who shouldn't be considered England internationals.

As for the growth of 'soccer' in the USA why don't the fans of it start to use the proper term for it. 'Soccer's has always been known as football to just about everyone around the world.

And as for the USA winning the world cup before England, it might happen but it won't be anytime soon. England are poor at the minute and the USA aren't strong enough at the minute with the number of quality players they have in their squad.

If we called soccer football what we call Canadian, collegiate, and professional football? You have no idea how big professional football is and how small professional soccer is. You asking North America to call soccer football is like America asking England to refer to their military the boy scouts.

Soccer has been the number one girls sport for decades. The bad news for the rest of the world is that many clubs in affluent areas are using the girls fees to subsidize the play of boys from immigrant areas. The boys padres y madres know the game and don't get overbearing with the boys so you will see them at world cup in about 10 years. Viva Estedos Unidos!

I see Turkey having more chances winning next world cup than US. At least Turkish national team should run for semi-finals.

As far as the pool concerns I would say neither US nor England. :)
    (I'm just being realistic)

US might win after 2-3 world cups, They are trying to improve their game.
As for UK its got the best players but they've got team spirit lacking in them.
I was really disappointed to see their performance in WC '06.
    I'm for Spain and Germany

Brazil will win dunga has got the disciplined at the back, as for italy they were lucky, holland have a young squad needs time to gel. France will have lost a lot of their experience and i cant see spain winning it either. Always gotta have money on germany as theyre consistent in competitions.

The question of the thread is who will win first England or USA. We all know that there about 6 teams that are always going to be competing. Let's talk about the two the thread is based on.
