Hello, i have placed statcounter code in my site, now my question is when i check my site for cached text it show statcounter link named "javascript hit counter" pointing to statcounter(dot)com than i checked in normal site view it doesn't appear any where. so will it consider as hidden links? if yes than will is affect ranking of site? statcounter is being used by so many webmaster and i had used for so many sites to. but i m not confident with effect of hidden link of statcounter. please share your experience about it. thanks
As far as I understand - statcounter is one of the classic examples of a viral widget. They are providing a free services (the counter) and in return you are contributing a small amount of your link-juice to their site. Duplicate that across a million different sites and you are getting some substantial impact. In this context - I don't think it's going to be penalised by google. There are very many different programs/examples of widgets who do something similar. In response to your questions more specifically: 1) I don't think it will affect the ranking of your site (it may affect the ranking of their's 2) If you are really worried - I use google analytics and am happy with that (it doesn't link - but you do have to share all your data with the google-bot - so bit of a toss-up ) Dylan
Thanks dylan, i m using statcounter since last one year, but worried about that hidden links thats all. what i m thinking is, when Google bot see hidden link on my site, algo will remain same for all hidden link. i mean how can google bot differentiate as hidden link is of statcounter so don't penalized this site. where as hidden link of other site than penalize this site. yes i have place code of analytics but i want to discuss this matter as lots of people using statcounter code on their sites.
I had already told that i m using it since last one year and i know that it is not harmful to sites, but still i m not getting the answers of my question. i m confuse about google webmaster guidelines, they strictly noticed about hidden text and hidden links. now in this case what will be the result. google have different criteria for different sites?
Hi JG, I can't really answer your question properly (or at least from any real knowledge) If I had to take a stab at it I would say that: 1. There is a legitimate reason for embedding the link in the <no script> portion (counting people who do not have javascript enabled) 2. Given that there is a legitimate reason - it may be ok for that reason. Regardless - I think google probably realises that millions of unsuspecting webmasters use it without any intention of hiding links - since the code is consistent - it would also be easy enough to exclude it from any negative filter. Same statcounter from 3-4 years and there is no effect on the site so dont worry about this link ..................because we are not only the one who has placed a lots of people has placed this statcouter link inspite of this if you still have fear then you put visible counter on your site so your problem will solved.......................
