I totally agree with ErectADirectory, i've got strings of pages in the top 5 of 100 Million plus serch terms without a backlink to the page. These also bring in 100's of visitors to the site, and despite doing nothing it's going on 5 months now with no loss of rankings.

It's also possible to do it the other way as well, have the poorest on-page in the world and rank just on backlinks/anchor text. I posted about this when i got a domain to page 1 for "SEO Company" and i mentioned the term once on the page. I intentionally didn't have it in title, Meta's, URL, links on the page, H tags, bold etc.

Basically IBP lit up red flags and said the page sucks and implied it shouldn't rank in the top million.

    Two statements:
    1. Backlinks improve your PR. Without backlinks, it's quite unwise to expect a good PR.
    2. Use less competitive keywords, but your chances will be quite meager even then.

Well i think the same way , having a nice site will be good for your traffic but for page rank , i dont think so . By the way , if you have a good enough site and have unique content , people will link to you automatically and the more popular your site is the more backlinks you get .

    Regards,
    Ace.

@Ace - Thanks for complementing the idea of backlinks. By the way, do you seriously think that it's possible to get a high PR without backlinks?

    Hi,

I believe that the idea of having back links will firstly influence your PR.

I already commented on this topic.

Here is a quoted text from Google it self:

First of all we must decide for what keyword. If you want to rank high for a keyword with 8 millions competitors, be my guest and I wish you luck but you'll fail. For keywords with 10.000 other websites , it is possible that you will make it .:D
