For beginners blogspot is the best choice. Wordpress does not support ads but I have heard of plug-ins that can enable this.

For the simply ability to customize almost any part of your blog i suggest word press and yes there are plugins that support adsense.

From my point of view, Word press got more customization options, you can get alot of plugins, free themes and other stuff. and wordpress is developing and upgrading regularly, so i suggest go for wordpress.

I started with blogger.com... very user friendly.

After a couple of days I decided to switch over to WordPress, because of all the plug-in's and things.

It took me a few days to get the hang of it, but I love it. I don't think I'd use any other platform. :)

same here. I just started my blog in 2 months and found that wordpress is quite comfortable to work with. You can find tons of plugins and themes from their site.

also, they have build in anti spam function which is a great plus to me.

Its very easy to install a template, but if you're in wordpress.com, then its not possible.

If your on your own server, then just upload all the template files to the wp-admin/themes folder and you can activate the theme in Presentation part of your admin Cpanel
