Appropriate length for Meta keywords & description ?

    Can anyone tell the appropriate length in characters/words for a fully SEOed (non spammy) Meta keyword and meta description ? :)

    i'm using my meta description 60-100 chra. and i'm using max. 5 keywords in my meta keywords.

    and the resullts are good :)

    I use about 50-100 for the description and I have 10 keywords in my meta keywords.

    I would recommend that you do not use generic meta tags. Instead have a specific meta keyword for each page and only use one keyword per page.
    The description should be limited to 50-150 characters.

    Title tag = 63 characters With Spaces

    Meta Keyword tag = 256 characters With Spaces

    Meta Description tag = 156 characters with spaces

    Anything beyond that will be cropped by google..If your phrase isnt completed, then a few extra words are allowed to complete the phrase and rest all goes cropped off..

    These are tested and trusted figures..Go count some in the SERPS and you will realise the figures automatically..

    Wrong.. !!

    Google will Crop Anything above 63 characters, Exception: If your phrase isnt complete while the 63 characters goes off, it will give you a few more words to complete and then put a "..." in front of it..

    Go figure out..!

    There are different claims about what Google likes to see in Meta Tags, is there any chance you could provide a source for the 63 char. claim?

    If you come out and ask me to prove things I'd said 2 years back in this ever changing industry... You my friend, are at the wrong place.. perhaps in the wrong industry as well..

    Anyhow, You are still free to go and check out any SERPS which have cropped results..

    the shorter the better, just make sure you mention your keywords at least twice. but if you would like good SEO, try to build links instead.

    Most search engine description snippets are about 160 characters, so keep your meta keywords at 160 characters.

    As for meta keywords, keep it 5-8 average.

    most search engines dont use meta keyword. I would suggest 5 words for title. and around 15 words for descriptiion.

    It all depends on the user screen resolution, so that is the reason I go for small meta tags so people can read my description first before visiting my site.. I hope this helps..

    I use up to 160 characters in meta descriptions (has worked well so far), but I don't use keywords anymore, so I'm not sure about that. :)
