Wordpress is quite complicated and any modification could render the entire thing a mess so I need to be careful. but how do you add a section below the blue logo? I want a box that would go under the header section that contains updates and stuff. the blog is www.iamned.com
Its just a .tpl that you need to edit. Add at the end of the header code if you wanted in between the logo and the rest of the blog. -edit- Or do you mean the sidebar?
Cant seem to find a .tpl file How do you edit top so it says somting besides 'just another wordpress blog' Everythign about wordpress is so complicated. Cant modify anything. Tons of files, includes, subfiles, folders and other stuff.
I dunno know where that if If there a file somewhere that contains the taglines and logo? I'm trying to find it but I cant I want to get rid of the text on the logo that says 'just another wordpress blog' and i'm tryin to figure out which files contain it
Its not in the file. Its in your control panel. The tpl files will simply have something along the lines of <?php bloginfo('description'); ?> which is just a database entry predefined in your control panel. The actual file is located here: wp-content/themes/default/header.php line 37 <?php bloginfo('description'); ?>
I fixed that but I have a new problem I get this message: "Error establishing a database connection" When trying to access parts of my admin panel On IE I get error messages and it says "Sorry, you need to enable sending referrers for this feature to work." Some parts of my admin panel work and others dont
Um...have you activated a MYSQL user and configured your username/password correctly in wp-config? Double check that you completed these steps correctly: http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress but don't use their support forum unless you have to...they are WP snobs and if you have a problem you will wait a long time for each answer.
I use yahoo hosting which has a weird mysql setting It doesn't allow you to modify anything like a cpanel would I have decided to delete the entire blog and start over after copying all my posts to a text file. I screwed up some other stuff beyond repair. to hell with it. It wont take long for me to start over anyway. I should use a host with cpanel but i dont know of any good providers.
I feel for you, Ned. I went from blogger to wordpress because "everyone" is always saying how much better and highly functional wordpress is (which i dont dispute), however, if one is not at all techy, it can be quite annoying to maneuver. Blogger is super duper easy, i still have a few blogs there. Good luck 2 you.
Ouchhh that's really bad. Yeah there are numerous option. I hosted my site in Canada, with hosting company call Netfirms.com. So far so good and uptime is almost 100 percent for the last 11 months. I always consider these two important factor in choosing webhosting - excellent customer services (24/7) and a CPanel. Cheap hosting - especially those offer by small co - usually come with it own headache. A few month ago I subscribed to a very cheap hosting - offer by a guy in DP. It's been hell - so far with my site - sort of down every 2 - 3 hour per week! He has all sort of Google ads in the CPanel - making it look awful. Wonder if it ever make any money. The worst thing - this guy sold the hosting company to another person and my entire website was wipe out. It took me almost a week before the new guy continue with my hosting.
For real? I've seen other positive reviews of Netfirms, even from users I trust, but I pray for the day my sites are successful enough to justify changing away from them. Using Netfirms was a pretty big mistake, a mistake that's hard to shake, because moving will be a hassle. Is that control panel really Cpanel? Cause I thought it was an in-house custom build. It doesn't seem to have features other Cpanel user seem to have, like antivirus. Netfirms and Wordpress is a particular pain in the ass, the one-button install is a joke, the MSQL fetching is glacial, and it took me four days to get around the "pretty permalinks" issue. Support is a big smile and "we'll look into it." On the other hand, uptime seems good. BTW, my biggest problem with Netfirms is they always charge me for stuff without asking, they always refund when I get mad, but I've complained about a lot of things like poor WP support and crappy webmail and timeouts. I would have switched, but they went ahead and charged me while I was looking for a new host, and they wouldn't give me the money back without zapping my site. If you do use Netfirms, use the MAX promo codes. $10/year, not shabby. Wish that was all I paid!
I relaunched the blog with a new template which is much simpler to modify than the original template. The template is coded more intuitively. I'll also check out bluehost
