Hi all I'm planning on buying a few domains, but it's all rather new to me. So I need your advice Is it a good idea to register names like allxxxxx.com, newxxxxx.com, bestxxxxx.com etc (off course xxxxx stands for the products what the site is about e.g. allshoes.com). Do names like these generate any natural traffic so I could park them? Or would it be better to add at least some content + ads? If you think all this is just a waste of time and money let me know! All names I have in mind are available at the moment so I could grab them for $6. Thank you very much!
Buying names just to park them will be a waste of time and money unless you really know what you're doing. Stick to developing is my advice.
I would agree, buying domains such as your example to park will not give you a return your looking for. Instead I would say *research* a topic that pays well online. Example: motorcycles (tons of bikes are sold online daily) Get a list of generic terms people search for with the main keyword "motorcycle" ... then try to find two and three word search terms that are available to register. Once registered create a mini site about the keyword phrase, points some links and wait three months. If done right you will see some nice ranking. Use content not already found online of course, good luck.
Thank you both for your replies! @ BJohnson: Do you mean I should use a tool like overture to find the keywords people looking for? And are there other tools available too? thanks
Hello Milenko, Yes, exactly. Makes sense too - helps in numerous ways. Someone searches for "dog grooming help" and happens to see your domain in the search results doggroominghelp.com ... Good chance they will click through to your site. Also helps with inbound links as it would be natural for people to link to with with your target terms since that is your domain name. I have some posts on my blog about this subject that might be helpful. Check the domain category...
allshoes.com actually sounds pretty good do you own that? anyway. couple of notes. +keep the names short. no hyphens. no numbers. +keep the names generic +keep the extention .com unless you are in for the "long haul"
in relation to what eastwood09 is saying...here's some good info...possibly will help you make the right decision... 3 Letter domain values are rising. as i tell all my students any and all research done before you buy is a GOOD THING!
oh and yes...i agree with everyone in here...don't buy just to park. if anything create a landing page...splash page!
Lol no I was just giving an example to give you an idea what name I was thinking of Thanks! Will keep these in mind
