It's very easy for people to start on online business without having the first idea about the niche they are going into , or doing any research into it. How many threads are there on this forum per week from someone saying -"I want to start a business selling robot dogs. Where do people get robot dogs from?" or even more vague - "i want to start a business and make lots of money. Tell me what business makes money".

Because not everyone has the patience.

I've been on adsense for over a year making $200 in that time.
Just now I'm starting to do better.

Not many people would get past a $200 year.

it's getting more and more difficult to make money online - the internet is not new, market is being consolidated, large companies are getting even bigger.
So to start all by yourself if you do not have anyone financing you is not an easy task...

I don't think it's getting more difficult to make money online if you differentiate yourself from others.

I think things are harder for people who rely on fads to make money: when I started out online safelists were huge, and I made a lot of money (what I considered a lot at that time) using them. Then we ruined it by automation; auto sending, auto link clicking, auto deleting safelist emails. . .

The same can be said for today with anything that worked great a year or so ago, but the knowledge came into the mainstream population & marketers decimate anything that'll pull a quick dollar. They (we) learn how to manipulate marketing tactics in a way that it ends up destroying the effectiveness of said methods.

If you have a solid business plan, do your research for market demand & competition and come up with something that differentiates what you have to offer from the rest, you shouldn't have a problem making at least some money online. And if you build a brand around what you're offering ( instead of looking for the quick dollar with one sale) then you'll establish a following that will pay you time & time again.
