this is probably common knowledge but i only cam across it a few days ago if you change all the links for you site internal and your sig links etc to http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?www.yourwebsite.com then each time some one clicks your link your rating gets improved with alexa. has anyone done this and does it improve your site with alexa??
Why are you wanting a higher Alexa ranking? It won't do much for you unless you're selling the domain via GoDaddy or something
Alexa ratings could be of help if you try to sell links from your website. It somehow indicates the number of traffic your website gets. Even though Alexa rankings are somewhat subjective, they could serve a more or less objective mission.
Why bother trying to manipulate your alexa ranking, most marketers know it is something to go by and in my opinion is junk. Now if you are trying to sell your domain name and you have a great alexa ranking via manipulation, what is the PR of that site? Having a great alexa ranking and a PR of only 3 or 4 won't do much good. Steve
Why is everyone asking why? He's simply posting a method that he's read about and asking if anyone has tried it and had success. To answer your question, no I have not tried it and I don't know if it works but it would be interesting to know.
thanks for all the replies. i am focusing on my page rank at the mo as its only 2. i changed a few links to the alexa redirect and i will advise if it increases my rating over the next few weeks.
nevocsolutions, yeah, it does increase your Alexa rank as far as I know. But, did you think of all the backlinks you're wasting if you use the redirect link instead of the real one? And the Google bot sees the redirect instead of the real internal link also. That means no juice passed to those pages. IMHO, it's not worth it.
didnt think of that. iv put the redirect link on a few of my blogs. so i wouldnt get the back link from that blog alexa would. think ill change them back.
I did write about the redirect on my site before but it think its debatable if it works or not... haven't seen a case study which shows that they do. Changing internal links might also not be a good idea because internal linking with proper anchor text helps you to rank.
nifty find but... is this legal? even if you're selling domain you're like lying to potentioal buyer... arent you?
of course its legal, you're not lying to your buyer. Your alexa rank is what you said it is. Also gaiming alexa or google or any site that ranks people is not illegal, it is just kinda against the sites TOS.
I got a few Alexa tips here from my site if anyone wants to check it out. And yes, that redirect does help improve Alexa ranking. I also agree with some people that it's only important if you're signing up for a service that uses your site's Alexa ranking for something.
