Use your webhost server stats package or your raw log files.

I use StatCounter. I find it much easier to use than Google Analytics, and it's real time. Analytics only updates once a day... and I'm impatient.

statcounter is very simple so that any newbie can use it with ease and google analytics which is the best on earth is a bit advanced so newbies may find it difficult.. Start with statcounter and then go for google analytics once u get a fair idea abt analytics.. U can hav both the analytics at a time..

I use both StatCounter and Google Analytics. And their numbers run pretty close to identical.

The best source is your WebLogs..AWstats, webalizer etc..They can check out the traffic without you going here n there to look out for other sources..

If u are not able to somehow use that option, then opt in for G analytics like everyone said.

According to me, analytics give more details but it is little bit complex with compare to statcounter to view quick details.
i use both for my sites.

I use both of these too. Analytics is great for archiving and comparing trends over time. statcounter provides real time traffic information

I certainly recommend Analytics. It offers so many more features than StatCounter (i do still like StatCounter). They both have important information such as traffic sources, pages per visit, top landing pages, top exit pages, average visitor time, visitor geo location. Analytics offers a few extra cool features, such as Site Overlay, which shows you where users are clicking on each of your actual pages. Analytics also integrates with AdWords...

Oh and Analytics is a slicker interface and can email you any specific stats at any interval you choose.

    Shibby!
