SEOing Squidoo lenses

    Hi,
How can I improve the page rank of my squidoo lens?
Is submitting articles to multiple directories any good or just a waste of time?
Also, is there anyway to know where the competition is getting its links from?
    Thanks

Get valuable backlinks with the keywords you target on. Of course submitting articles is not a waste of time, but you should have a different content, not the same for all directories.

To see the backlinks for a website just type on Google "link:www.domain.com". I use this command in a complex way through an application, advanced link manager, which helps me a lot finding the links my competitors have.

I totally agree with the above, get quality backlinks from relevant websites with high pagerank.

in my opinion squidoo lenses will not help your page rank or serp.

    it's waste of time.

focus on getting more and more backlinks

When Squidoo lenses were first launched - they had great search engine value. I maintained a few and they ranked exceptionally well.

In the last couple of updates - this has dropped dramatically. Unless you are dealing with a really specific niche - they don't seem to be nearly as prominent as they were in the past.

In that case - my suggestion would be that you are better off focussing your SEO/link-building activities on your main site rather than trying to split your efforts.

I did notice that all of them get listed as a backlink in Google Webmaster. For instance, I have about 40 Squidoo lenses, and all of them are listed as backlinks. It's worth a try, just like submitting to directories every day.

I see squidoo lenses on the top results on google and yahoo all the time, so I don't think they suffered recently

They will be useless soon, there are currently too many articles about the advantages posted on blogs all over the world. Google reads too you know :).

I think that Google tolerates a little Web 2.0 promotion.

There would be a lot of collateral damage if they tried to go after it.
