Hi I\'m expecting 100.000 daily visitors on my site after launch. The website is like normal website, with articles etc.. nothing heavy. So how much do you think i need to invest in server/servers monthly, i know it\'s impossible to give accurate numbers. Do i need heavy dedicated server or several servers? I need to ask this cause i\'m on limited budget and wan\'t to know how much money i need to survive the first 4 months without profit. Avarage user will see 4 to 6 pages and thats it. So i\'m looking at around 500.000 page views daily. I know most people will say, that i should lower my expectations but this is not the case. It\'s 100% sure there will 100.000 uniques daily, i can\'t explane this without revealing too much. I\'m very happy for all answers, remember that we compare this site to avarage site with normal images and text.
You can get away with almost any shared hosting account for like $4/mo. Check like made2own.com I've had digg front page articles which receive like oh 1,000+ visitors per hour on their $4/mo plan and the server held just fine.
You might get away with a shared host or even semi-dedicated plan. As long as you don't go with an over-seller, because you will probably exceed the cpu.
IMO is not that little. 100,000 daily visitors for only one site is very hard to get. Check the bandwitdh you're buying, but If you you don't go with an over-seller, a shared hosting could work fine.
im also launching a site that i expect that ammount of visitors, but im going for dedicated hosting, its depends on your type of site, if its database heavy, shared hosting will not do
Well, often I hear people screaming "hey! gotta launch a site that'd get millions of visitors/page views a day" In reality, 99% don't live up to the expectations...else they'd all have been the next google, myspace or youtube. Well, occassional traffic spikes are there...but sustained high traffic is practically unrealistic. Wake up people...don't dream so much when you haven't started yet!
you should be fine wih shared hosting or vps but with shared hosting they limit the number of connections to the db that would be your only problem
Check out http://www.xaphost.com/component/option,com_wrapper/Itemid,58/ and go for a shared package.. you can upgrade anytime you want.
