Christmas party, question?

At last year's Christmas party we all had been drinking and I was standing under some mistletoe when a coworkers wife said "your under the mistletoe so I may as well give you a kiss". Long story short she kissed me but not on the cheek but on the lips. Later on that night my wife asked me why she had done this and I did not have a good explanation as to why other that "I guess it is a tradition".

Now this woman I have seen every year at our company Christmas party for ten years now. My question is this:

Do you think this is out of line? Should I have said something to stop her? What should I do at this year's party

Sorry for the random question, it just came to my mind looking at another thread here.

Yes, it's out of line. If she knows you are married she shouldn't be kissing you. Unless of course, you are a big flirt with her at work, and you pursue her relentlessly. Then she might have thought that you wouldn't mind. In either case, she should be scared of what your wife might do to her!

She is the wife of a coworker, I only see her at the holiday party and special work functions where it's ok to bring your s/o. I also do not think I flirt with her either, this was so random to me. The only thing I did was say nice things about her husband and his work.

What happened happened. A few of my mates are like that. Some people don't find anything strange in that. Is everything ok now?

Is this in the USA? Nothing but bad news can come from a situation like this, harassment laws being what they are. Your employer ultimately is liable in a situation like this and can be sued by either yourself or any of your co-workers.

If you are in the state of California particularly YOU can be personally sued even if you are not the initiating party in the action.

I would defintely avoid HER at all costs.

I would be pissed at my wife had she kissed another guy regardless of mistletoe or not. I don't really believe it is out of line for you, but perhaps you could have avoided the situation by turning down the offer of the kiss. I don't see why your wife would be upset with you assuming you weren't given the opportunity to avoid the situation.
