Lately what I have tried doing is posting in advertising/marketing forums telling people that we have opened an online store for promotional magnets and business card magnets. This is about the most relevant community I could find for a promotional magnets website... Anyhow - if you have any suggestions for link building here (other than what I am doing), that would be great. The site is http://www.fourcolormagnets.com
did you read the sticky? some real good info is posted there. I am in the middle of doing those techniques now.
Submit site to directories and social bookmark sites. You can post ads but they run out after awhile. I would make a blog about your company and what it offers for link back to site and some extra traffic.
Hmm.. I just used Only Wire and submitted my site to a bunch of social bookmarking sites. I might try the blog idea - not sure how I would incorporate a blog for a promotional product company though >.< nothing really "new" happens.
make a blog, post to craigslist, post to social bookmark sites, but most of all make sure you post to other sites that are on different class c ip's (not on your same dedicated server.)
I tried OnlyWire, but found that the default bookmarks made went into private folders. After I moved them to appropriate folders they became visible. This COULD have been due to me misconfiguring some of the bookmark accounts initially, I haven't looked into it that much. Just a heads-up, in case you're not getting any referrals from the sites you've put into OW.
Do some hardcore linkbaiting using social media sites. You can get thousands of links to a site like this easily.
Spend some time reading around the forums under the topics of "link development" and "seo" and you should gain some useful knowledge. Like mad 4 stated, doing link baiting has become the most popular way to gain links these days.
i strongly suggest you to read the sticky thread on this forum. it's a great start point for the beginners
Some ideas for your blog/linkbaiting could be to (1) post an image of the most creative magnet each week, or (2) have customers emial you photos of the most creative promotion they did with a magnet, or (3) you could create magnets that lots of people would find funny (make fun of some current news topic like anything Bush related or the South Caroline beauty queen - you could put her whole stupid quote on a magnet, etc.) and then post images of these, etc.
