Apart dozens of mainly my own mods I use lot of mods I do not share - however all coded myself. Have some secret mods too! Sometimes I wonder is it still PhpLD directory... Most proud I am of both my advertising systems as I know it's widely used and brought thousands of USD to dir owners. Most I like now my LinkRenew modification.
Isn't it right that if you modify opensource code enough then you have the right to call it your own or am I wrong on that one?
I don't think so. The main engine is still PhpLD, though I even could build such. In past I built 2-3 custom directories from scratch. Some of them are still running today and have no problems with it. Those I can call my own.
Agreed. No matter how we look at it, the base is off phpld, and i know we've both modified the hell out of the script, but the fact remains what the base of it is on. the other guy is just trying to justify ripped and then encrypted code. I mean for christ's sake, they ripped stuff from oscommerce and the likes and put it into phplynx. he's a funny guy
Whatever, ripped or not (what a shame if it's true) One is sure - being against modifications or custom code is being against USERS. People are happy of having software or a web site which they can modify and make unique from other. If someone doesn't understand that - should keep his hands far from this business.
Yep. It's a main reason why i would never touch that phplynx script. We as coders/scriptors/modders (whatever we are referred to as) like to toy around and create things. If we cannot see what's what, then it's basically like driving with a blindfold and being stuck in a sandbox with nowhere to ever go. Whats the sense in using a script, if we cannot better our own endeavors with our own skill/knowledge, or at least be able to acquire someone with the know-how do to it for us.
LMAO, your not saying it took you this long to recognise phpLynx's foundation was based on ideas from an old opensource version of OSCommerce are you? Which by the way is one of the best opensource programs on the planet imho. Thought you were supposed to be a programmer? phpLynx have never hidden the fact that OSC gave them the vision to make the phpLynx script what it is now. A Rip? C'mon anon, you can do better than that. If your a 'REAL' programmer you'd know for a fact that the amount of coding work put into the phpLynx script is phenomenal to get it where it is, certainly more than enough to make phpLynx more than qualified to be unique. It's so sad when people like you turn into green eyed monsters when it threatens the $100 a pop ripped mod (phpLynx had this idea well before you b.tw.). Throw mud all day if you want, the phpLynx team have nothing to hide. So just to clarify for you anon, no-one 'Ripped' anything, the phpLynx team looked at tons of ideas, some they liked some they didn't, and then worked on creating an awesome cleanly coded directory script. The fact it based some ideas on the fundements of one of the best open source products on the planet was testimony to the saying you should never re-invent the wheel. @Dargre; I can tell you with certainty that the phpLynx script is no 'rip' of anything, read above. I'm not against modified code or custom scripts, quite the opposite in fact. I'm making an entire script now that's not based on phpLynx or any other script as it doesn't do what I want, even though the phpLynx script evolves around customising its script to suit its users. I agree with you that making something unique from another is great which is why we made so much of the script capable of being turned on or off. This means you can either have a basic script or an all singing and all dancing directory depending on what your needs. @Anon; stop being so jealous, you look silly. Whatever the phpLynx script based its foundation, its a damn site better than any other script in its class and price bracket and that's the important thing because the consumer gets value for money. LMAO again, just got p.m'd that there was a bet on when one of you was gonna post about this, you or a.n.other. you were hot favourite, you'll know the other I'm told. 'We as coders' ROFL, I loved that bit, Little more than a year or so and you've gone from someone with a porn site to one of the planets greatest coders, designers, SEO experts, forum guru's; etc etc; WoW, I bow in your presence oh mighty one.
Sigh!! Read the post, there's nothing to hide, think that was pretty clear, just as clear as your post was pointless. Wait, let's go get 99.9% of developers to show their code just to make you feel better. Cmon, get a grip. Tut tut.
They say if you keep telling yourself the same thing over and over and over again, you will eventually start to believe in your fantasy world. congratz! you've done it!!! I would tell you to 'Cmon, get a grip'.. but it appears you already have one in the situation. hahaha
lmao, yep, your absolutely right, you've been telling yourself your god's gift to the internet for the past year or so now haven't you, and you acually believe it. And bless your dig at a 'rip' really got to me, oooh the pain I feel. Won't stoop as low as you and start bitchin, will leave that to the green eyed monster. You certainly ain't the green monster in your avitar, seen your real pic, more muscle on a cockle ain't that a fact. Nite nite my love, sweat dreams. Oh, and please keep this forum decent by refraining form BS accusations you naughty boy you.
Not quite sure what the relevance of what other developers do is. The fact is plain and simple. You said there's nothing to hide. Yet the code is hidden. Not sure that insults are warranted either.
You do what you have to do. don't send me any PMs. you claim I am not me? hahaha...are you on crack? I've been on webcam for a few of my fellow peers to say hi... so anyway... keep on 'TOPIC', to which this thread is about; MODs, for which you have none, so maybe it'd be best you leave back to your fantasy land with both your lack of information and MODs. next...
The thread is getting a bit offtopic Deeplinks Mod( My own -not ripped from any body) Referrer Mod Different Price for Different Categories These are mods I am using in my directory PR4 Jeff Brown Web Directory
To keep on topic I've replied to the p.m you sent me, I think that's the best way as it's entertaining your enemies otherwise, and lowering the tone of a good forum. So yes, back on track... @Freewebspace; I like the last mod you made, not sure if there's a huge place for it as it is because all categories are pretty much the same, but with some manipulation perhaps it could be made into an awesome tool.
