Submitting your site to proxy topsites is just a start. If you want to see real traffic, pay to have your proxy url added to a newsletter, submit your proxy to proxy lists, pay someone to send some myspace messages. One of the best things can be good old fashioned SEO. A lot of people limit themselves to topsites, but they are really just a beginning. And in my opinion the topsites really aren't worth it. They don't send a ton of traffic, and you have to display tons of voting buttons for it to be effective.

SEO will beat them all. Having top site buttons allover your page is annoying. I won't use those sites. I despise those sites, sorry. But anyways pick a keyword and get directory links etc. Trade links with sites as well.
Hes got it down, i wont use sites with topsites either. Pages take ages to load, look ugly, and flashy buttons are annoying.
I think you should submit your self to directory websites, and more people will come. Make sure the directory website has a lot of views per day
Here is my tips. There are alot of ways promoting a proxy site. There is no such "best" way. You must try and find the "best" way that works for you. I would suggest in SEO. If you get good results in google with proxy related keywords then you will get alot of "free" visitors. However. I will also suggest you to sign up at social sites such as myspace.com or hi5.com You must be "active" at these sites. Get friends. And then tell your friends how to hide this and that. I think telling small kids the proxy site will help ALOT! those kids are gold worth. They spread the word VERY VERY FAST! and if the kids see the "hiding thing" then you can likely see ALOT of visitors. Ooops good tips giving away !
