Can a blank website/page have a high PR?

Hello DP users. Please help me win this argument I had with my friend.

    Argument:

I say that a blank website/page can have PR, as long as it has enough decent backlinks.

He says that PR depends on decent content and backlinks, so a blank website can not have a high PR.

    Whos right?

    Thanks!

I've seen pages with only for instance an image on it get a PR of 6 before simply becuase evey other page on the site is pointing to it :)

Not sure about a 100% blank page...

Of course it can - if enough people were stupid enough to link to it.

Content and Pagerank are mutually exclusive.

PR6 and no content, no problem. Showing up in Google for anything....problem.

If it's gotten a lot of links, then yes, but an abandoned website or something with a blank page could eventually fall in PageRank. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank

Page rank is based solely on the number of pages that link to a given site, and content is not a factor as all. However, as donttrustthisposter said... having a high Google PR does not necessarily mean you will show up higher in search results, because the ordering of search results is based on content such as <meta> tags, the page title, the URL, and more.

    Regards,

    Eric

Yes i had a fully blank white page with no Meta keywords or title, just HTML and BODY opening and closing tags. It was PR4 and stayed PR4 even after the last PR update simply because the backlinks supported it.

Believe it or not it DID also rank for terms that were contained in its backlink anchor text.

    Theoretically it can.
But you will be hard pressed to find a guy willing to link to a blank site.

sounds like a good viral gimmick. Register theblankwebsite.com and get lots of people around the internet to link to it, and see how it does in a year :D
