Because it is a directory... my question is What are so special about directories that in order to get a high PR you need to be listed in directories. You can be listed in other websites but why directories? What is so special about them... do they have some special code that search bots look for and then when they find your site and find the code they will make some changes in your PR... Sorry, sounds dumb but I am new to SEO Please enlighten me Thanks all

The primary and most important reason why you get listed in quality directories is To get your site reviewed. I tell you from my own experience that it would appear that Search engines truely respect the work of the editors of the top directories. All three big search engines recomend that you get listed in the directories PR is also transmitted, but PR only applies to google, and even with google , its only a 1 factor, very important, but still 1 factor amongst many algo factors
Truth be known there's probably nothing special about them, people will claim they are quality backlinks but in reality all they are is 'backlinks' period. It's far easier to get into a directory that on any other site as your relevant to a directory. People will try and put myths to you that if you submit to directories with higher rankings this improves your position, not really true, a link is link.
If the below is truely your opinion, I am puzzled about why you promote a directory script, or run a directory. There are easier ways to get links

Well lets put it this way: a business competitor is certainly not going to link to your website even if both of you sell the same product online
Directories are a good place to find new sites, as brand new sites don't always show up in search engines you can sometimes find fresh sites in directories as they are a popular choice for promotion of new sites.
Are you sure about that? What about banner ads on a monthly basis... what about the latest craze where well established directories charge per the day to be on the front page. Don't kid yourself... This is a business just like any other. We all want to walk away at the end of the day in the black.
