Won't bother repeating myself. Have a look at http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=4269102&postcount=16 for my response to those who think Yahoo Directory listings are worthless.
DMOZ because it's free and Google uses it. Otherwise, since I suspect a bit of corruption and am annoyed with DMOZ for taking so long to list, I would say Yahoo.
I had a brand new site, bought a Yahoo directory listing. I'm now #1 in Yahoo for my targeted term and climbing in Google for the same term (#7).
I second that emotion. btw, isn't this topic in the wrong category? this is the Google folder, why's this useless topic here ?
Oh well so sorry....Oh and this does relate to Google since they recommend both in webmaster guidelines and btw it's not useless because some information is bound to come out of it. Oh and its fun to see what people think.
I'm luckily in both. However, here are the main points: Yahoo = helped a lot with serp's... but it's really expensive. DMOZ = arguably helpful with serp's, but not proven. Good page rank. Free - and not subject to any penalty that might come from paid links.
better be listed on both to gain enough traffic/ranking from yahoo and google, target optimizing site on google and get paid on yahoo...
I like the predictability of a Yahoo submission, you know you will get a decision in a timely matter. You can only guess about DMOZ listings.
neither their both crap, dmoz you never get in and even if you do you don't get much from it and yahoo is a rip off!
The listing process is as follows: 1. Site is submitted to appropriate category. 2. Editor logs in and sees some categories with the term New next to it. 3. He edits the good listing and it goes live. The main problem is step 2 happens infrequently for some categories.
